My daughter needs to gain weight!!!

My daughter needs to gain weight. She started the gym and they recommended her to use a supplement like Protoplex. They told her to drink it after the workout. She need to gain at least 10-15 pounds. She eats a lot every day and every 3 hours but she does not gain weight.

I think that she can drink the protoplex every day even if she did not go to the gym but she dont dare to do that. Has someone have a situation like that and can give me any recommendation?

Thanks.

Tell her to eat more. Don't waste money on a weight gainer.

FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal please enter what she eats in a typical day and report the numbers back.

How tall is she and what does she weigh?

She is 5'2" and weights 90 pounds. She would like to gain like 10 pounds for some reasons: if she looses weight when sick, then is too thin, right now she is under weight and it is difficult for her to find jeans and clothes that fit her.

does she have an eating disorder, or is she just naturally thin? How do the other members of your family look? Heavy? Skinny? Muscular?

She is 19 years old. She is naturally thin. All analysis on her (tiroyd are ok). She has been always thin. In the family nobody is as thin as her. She does not have an eating disorder, I am sure of that. And she does not want to gain a lot of weight, only to have more tights and butts. That is why she is in the gym and starting with a protein supplement.
I dont know how many calories she eats a day but its a lot because she has a full breakfast, lunch and dinner and her snacks sometimes are full meals.

Like Built said, would you mind tracking what she eats on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal You can input the items that she eats, and at the end of the day you'll see the total calorie amount. It's free to use as well.

'A lot' is a very relative term. If we know precisely how many calories she is consuming, we can be more helpful.

Hmm sounds like she eats alot for a 5"2 19 year old girl, and if she's not putting on weight I would pin it down to either an overactive thyroid, or maybe she's bulemic and you don't kniw (which tends to happen). Is she losing weight or staying the same??
She could also have a GI problem or parasite, like worms. Have all these been checked out by a certified doctor?

Last question, I know this is a really obvious one but I just need to check. Is she very active?

Honestly, I ate like this too at her age.

I remember forcing food down to the point of PAIN trying to get it all in. My jaw actually got tired from chewing.

I wish I had something fitday back then, I tell you what!

Not sure what protoplex is.

If it is a protein supplement, it would be fine for her to drink it on days she does not train in the gym.

I agree that he should track calories. However, I am thinking it is some type of eating disorder, because we have yet to see how this girl feels that the spotlight is being put on her. I'd like to know her attitude.
I'm speaking strictly from a teacher's standpoint; I had experience with this in several students and I have come to the conclusion in my years of being in the proverbial loop, that most young girls will not admit to it, or on the other side of the spectrum, do they think anything is wrong with it. I remember I used to smell a weird smell in one of the backpacks I had to check on a daily basis, I would open it up sees bags of puke in it. When questioned, she explained it was for a science project. Obviously, I did the right thing.

Just staying along the ED track, we are also assuming that all the food that is prepared for her is being eaten. If food is left for her at home to be eaten, it can be thrown away. Unless lissylopez7 sees her eating, there's no way to know whether she's honest about her intake.

Lissylopez7, what are her doctor's thoughts on her weight?

Thats why I suggested Bulemia. It consists of binge eating - eating alot, but then going on to puke in private. It is almost always eaten and its really hard to diagnose because often the subjects dont show any physical symptoms.

Check your daughters throat. If she is throwing up frequently then there should be some sort of damage to her throat due to the bile & stomach acids corroding it. Have the doctor check it out.
