I used to use Androgel, it worked very well for me, I used the 5gram packets daily and my T levels stayed around 1200ng/dl. If you have insurance that will cover Androgel it's a good option for HRT, however in the summer it can be a pain in the ass. If you plan on going swimming or to the beach you have to plan around that stuff because the gel will wash off, it takes around 8 hours to absorb. You can also transfer it to your partner, so you have to be careful where you apply the gel. Also, if you're a hairy man that is an issue to, you have to shave the areas where you apply it. When I went on vacation I would switch to using the Androgel at night before bed so I would not have any issues with swimming or getting wet. I have tried generic versions of testosterone gel and they did not work for shit, so I now inject, it's easier, cheaper and works a hell of a lot better, and have none of the above mentioned issues.

    Thanks

Thanks for the info! Will look for something mild other than generic gel since insurance won't cover Androgel. Am 57 and running out of steam so it would be nice to boost the octane a little bit!

I echo everything Prince said.I was prescribed testim gel and It worked. It didn't get my levels as high as the anrogel did for him but it was effective. It is a pain to use as previously described.I now also inject my hrt which is much easier, cheaper, and more effective. The thing about testim was that the doctor gave me a card to use that gave me 40$ off every month for a year which covered my copay,so it's something you may want to ask about.

hey there man, where did you get the 5% stuff from? PM me when you can.

Also I know a guy who makes his own gel, with testosterone base and uses a fast absorbing gel, like DMSO, DMSO can cause skin irritation for some though. He also tried a new exp, by adding the powders to hand sanitizer and he said it worked excellent!

You can also use PLO gel.

You may want to look at this option as it may be cheaper for you to do this than keep buying the andro.

All the best and keep us updated brother

Do you guys prefer the Gel for some reason?

It seems most people prefer to just inject once a week or two weeks its cheaper and effective.

Most of our patients i would say over 90% rather use injections dues to gels and creams being so messy and the transfer chance.

MrTom, I, too, am an old fuck. I used both Androgel and testosterone cream from a compounding pharmacy. I much preferred the cream, but the issues that Prince mentioned are very real. You must be very careful when around women and children -- the physiological changes in can cause in them are dangerous and potentially permanent. I had an aversion to needles (maybe you do, too) but that fear vanished the first time I pinned injectable testosterone, and I now actually look forward to my 2xweekly pinnings (once weekly is all you need for HRT) because the lift is immediate, and I am doubly psyched about lifting or doing the Versaclimber. Dump the gel; embrace the needle.

2tomlinson, why do you say once weekly is all you need for HRT? Twice-weekly pinnings keep levels stable - a real consideration for those running physiologic levels.

mrtom, get injections. The cream is a real lifestyle decision. Pinning is just "stick it, and forget it".
Wondering where to start? Confused? "Homework 1" will get you started.

Think you're ready for the "next step"? Take this test.

Thanks for all the help! Am looking into injections but am going to finish my tube of cream first to see if it helps. It is supposed to be a 1 month supply, so I should see results by then. Not looking for miracles, just a little jump in energy and tightening up.

    Ah, gotcha.

Considering the "standard of care" is one shot every two to four WEEKS, once a week is indeed superior for HRT, beyond question.

My own mathematical modeling suggests that optimal dosing frequency is at least twice per halflife. Cyp and Enanthate both have similar halflives - which may vary from about 5-8 days depending on the source you read, pinning volume, concentration, and injection site. With that in mind, dosing at twice per week - whether on cycle or for HRT, would appear prudent. Consider this from the prespective of side effects: too high, and you aromatize more of it. Too low, and you feel like crap. The steadier the level, the better. In this regard, daily topical application is indeed superior - it's just messy.

For women, daily topical application works very well - we need such tiny doses, there's really no great concern regarding mess or transfer to a spouse - even a same sex spouse. The only real concern would be transfer to children and this is easy to avoid: apply somewhere the child won't touch.

Considering where the gel is applied, contact by others is not an issue. Now all I need is the new Atkins book!

Abs Lady (Built), do you think my wife would benefit from a weekly dab of test cream? On those occasions when I was using the cream, and wasn't careful --or caught up in a fit of passion -- she felt a marked increase in energy, she said, for a couple of days after contact. Most recent blood test, her level of free testosterone was high 60s or low 70s, I think.

    2tomlinson, it isn't a weekly thing with the cream - it's daily.

I don't know what those numbers mean - you need to post reference ranges with numbers. I know how much better I felt when I first went on transdermal test. I was using 1g of 1% cream daily.
