    Man guilty of dealing steroids

A MAN has been handed a suspended prison sentence after he became one of the few people in the UK to be convicted this year of dealing anabolic steroids.

Andrew Degiorgio, 27, was found with 638 steroid tablets when a squad of police officers raided a premises in St Helens in March this year.

Appearing in court, Degiorgio pleaded guilty to a series of charges relating to the supply of a controlled class C drug.

Anabolic steroids are typically used by bodybuilders to improve strength and boost physique, but they are also known to have dangerous side effects.

It is legal to possess them for personal use but a criminal offence to supply them. Nevertheless, prosecutions for dealing the substances are rare.

Degiorgio, of Hinckley Road, Islands Brow, is the only person to be convicted of distributing steroids in Merseyside during 2009/2010, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed this week.

There have only been several prosecutions in the UK during that period, in Derbyshire, South Wales and the Midlands.

Degiorgio, who appeared before St Helens Magistrates’ Court, admitted three counts of possession with intent to supply anabolic steroids.

He also pleaded guilty to three charges of supplying steroids.

Magistrates sentenced him to an eight week prison sentence that is suspended for 12 months.

He must carry out 200 hours unpaid work over the next year.

Previously, the Star has reported how growing numbers of young men across St Helens are risking their health by regularly injecting themselves with anabolic steroids.

Public health experts say even teenagers are involved in the rapidly-growing trend to use steroids as a tool to build muscles, body size and strength.

Numbers using the drug have quadrupled in the last couple of years, with data suggesting that hundreds of men were taking the drug over 12 months across St Helens.

I think lawyers need to provide the judge and/or jury with the facts about how much steroids it actually takes to do a cycle. If i have 8 (10 ml) vials, it does not mean I am selling them. It takes those 8 vials for my 3 month cyce. The biggest misconception is the amount. Another factor that needs to be explained is that you do not get high from these. You do not have a euphoric high that distorts your judgement. I feel like the same exact person before I injected.

Maybe they should bann vit C

    Common side-effects
Relatively large doses of vitamin C may cause indigestion, particularly when taken on an empty stomach. When taken in large doses, vitamin C causes diarrhea in healthy subjects. In one trial in 1936, doses up to 6 grams of ascorbic acid were given to 29 infants, 93 children of preschool and school age, and 20 adults for more than 1400 days. With the higher doses, toxic manifestations were observed in five adults and four infants. The signs and symptoms in adults were nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flushing of the face, headache, fatigue and disturbed sleep. The main toxic reactions in the infants were skin rashes.[129]
    [edit] Possible side-effects

As vitamin C enhances iron absorption,[130] iron poisoning can become an issue to people with rare iron overload disorders, such as haemochromatosis. A genetic condition that results in inadequate levels of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) can cause sufferers to develop hemolytic anemia after ingesting specific oxidizing substances, such as very large dosages of vitamin C.[131]
There is a longstanding belief among the mainstream medical community that vitamin C causes kidney stones, which is based on little science.[132] Although recent studies have found a relationship,[133] a clear link between excess ascorbic acid intake and kidney stone formation has not been generally established.[134] Some case reports exist for a link between patients with oxalate deposits and a history of high-dose vitamin C usage.[135]
In a study conducted on rats, during the first month of pregnancy, high doses of vitamin C may suppress the production of progesterone from the corpus luteum.[136] Progesterone, necessary for the maintenance of a pregnancy, is produced by the corpus luteum for the first few weeks, until the placenta is developed enough to produce its own source. By blocking this function of the corpus luteum, high doses of vitamin C (1000+ mg) are theorized to induce an early miscarriage. In a group of spontaneously aborting women at the end of the first trimester, the mean values of vitamin C were significantly higher in the aborting group. However, the authors do state: 'This could not be interpreted as an evidence of casual association.'[137] However, in a previous study of 79 women with threatened, previous spontaneous, or habitual abortion, Javert and Stander (1943) had 91% success with 33 patients who received vitamin C together with bioflavonoids and vitamin K (only three abortions), whereas all of the 46 patients who did not receive the vitamins aborted.[138]
Recent rat and human studies suggest that adding Vitamin C supplements to an exercise training program can cause a decrease in mitochondria production, hampering endurance capacity.[139] A cancer-causing mechanism of hexavalent chromium may be triggered by vitamin C.[140]

He probably should have told them they were all for himself instead of admitting they were for distribution.

Degiorgio, who appeared before St Helens Magistrates’ Court, admitted three counts of possession with intent to supply anabolic steroids.

He also pleaded guilty to three charges of supplying steroids.
