    Gear & Red Meat

This may belong in a different thread, so if anybody needs to move it, fine by me.

There was a thread here somewhere in which CT is suggesting to the OP that he should be eating red meat. Sounds like good advice to me. Unfortunately I don't eat red meat, is there anything other than protein supp that I should be taking to replace what I'm not getting from red meat?? I eat alot of chicken, tuna, egg whites, turkey...etc.

I'm in the same boat. I think the main thing is to keep your calories up (or down, if you are cutting) and Macros balanced. As long as you are getting enough Protein and fat, that is really the key.

Why do you not eat red meat if i may ask? You may be able to sup with beans, rabbit, buffalo (very high in protein and low in fat) , but that is red meat also.

For me I have hypertension, and take meds for elevated blood cholesterol and blood pressure. I love red meat, but for health reasons I can't eat as much as I used to before all this. I've always had a genetic predisposition towards this problem, but I started taking the meds the last couple of years. My numbers are improving. I eat a lot of beans, tuna, chicken breasts, ect, along with whey protein and fish oil supplements. I need to watch salt intake as well.

You may also want to try gator....Cabelas sells it but it is kind of expensive. Alligator meat is considered to be healthier than domestic chicken, especially when it comes to cholesterol and fat content.

From a health standpoint, alligator meat may be considered a better alternative to marbled steaks or fatty pork products. According to one alligator meat producer in Florida, the nutritional value of alligator breaks down like this: Nutritional values for approximately 4 ounces (114 grams) of raw, edible portions:
    Calories 110 Calories From Fat 20 Total Fat 2 g Saturated Fat .5 g Cholesterol 55 mg Sodium 55 mg Total Carbohydrates 0 g Protein 24 g
The number of calories from fat and the low amount of saturated fat, along with the high protein and low carbohydrate ratio, suggests that alligator meat is a healthy meat product.

I love red meat, but don't eat much (mainly due to costs) and I do just fine.

I will eat a nice lean steak if I know I will be going a long time with no meals/protein available.

depending on the source read meat is high in creatine and fats. for males maximum test production is seen when the dietary fat intake is about 30-35% of the total cals. just about 50% of the fats in red meats are monounsaturated which basically balance out the bad fats and LDL.

as you already state there are plenty of other whole food protein sources out there, nothing miraculous about red meat in terms of the overall nutrient content.

The b vitamins and iron are why it is SO important to add it to your diet. The extra calories don't really make too much of a difference. I can cut on beef, whole eggs and bison.

Beef makes you thick and strong.

No not really, the natural vitamins and minerals found in beef can't really be substituted, unless you get some beef aminos or natural beef protein powder. The amino acid profile of beef is a lot different than from any other source of meat. Just like every other source of protein has a different profile from beef. Bottom line is it's hard to duplicate the real thing.

If you need more info on the beef supplements go look over at www.trueprotein.com Good luck.

Thanks for the link-I'll look into it. For right now, red meat is just not a regular option for me, so I hope to compensate as best I can.
