    disinfect vial question?

Ok i want to disinfect some of my vials question is:

Will the rubber part on the top where you poke your needle through melt when you bake it?

How do you stick a needle in the top where the plastic part of the needle at the top of it where it screws into the syringe melt also?

If someone could post a picture of the setup on a empty one or whatever that would be very awsome thanks !

You bake it also at 215 C right? for 45mins.

Why do you want to sterilize it? If it was compounded correctly it should be bacteriostatic meaning no bacteria can grow in it. If bacteria or some other microbe has grown in it you should trash it. Even if you manage to kill off the bacteria there are now pyogens and other microbial toxins in it that will cause you grief.

Vials are very cheap-just but new ones. Much less hassle, and you know they are clean, so long as you get them from a reputable source.

Boil it instead of baking it....baking it takes too long. hold vial over an open flame for several seconds until it boils, then remove it, this is the easiest way. (remember to stick a pin tip in so pressure can escape.)

If you bake it, you want to bring it to a boil, which is 212 degrees....Ideally, you should bring it up to 250 degrees but no higher than 275 dgrees. Hope this helps.

I would wash and dry it and then cook it in an autoclave but if you don't have one a pressure cooker works fine

PS dont use isopropyl alcohol it fix pyrogens.

I think i labeled the title wrong aha. K what happened was i stuck a needle in and i didnt sterilize the top of the vial where the rubber was cause im an idiot wasnt thinking there, and i want no chance of infection. So i still have some sauce in the vial its a new one, and its a 20ml vial full to the top besides the half cc i drawn. I want to sterilize it now and im afraid of the rubber part on the top of the vial melting along with the plastic part on the needle when i bake it in the oven. I do not have a slow cooker so the oven is my only choice....

Bake it the oven at 127 C or 260 F, for 45 mins. Bring your oven to the proper temp before you start the baking propcess. The rubber stopper should not melt at that temp.

Follow my advice above, i knew what you meant the first time. It literally takes about 10secs on an open flame.

Yeah, you could, fire is fire, your vial might get black soot on it though. I am not sure of the exact time it takes but it is very fast...just bring it to a boild for a couple of seconds.
