    Hating on Gear

Why do some people hate gear and criticize bodybuilding so much. Is it a matter of having their own insecurities. I don't see what's their problem if they want to "stay true to themselves" good for them but why hate? It just seem that those who are afraid of the risk like to hate to excuse their own pussyness.

The ones who criticize are the ones who wont sacrifice the hard work, pain, injury and time to make themselves better. They think if you stick a needle in your hip your grow. Bodybuilding is more about sacrifice. Big commitment = small payoffs

Arnold talks about it in Pumping Iron, and he connects it to a lack of understanding of what it is all about. Always liked that explanation. Kind of a nice way of saying people are just ignorant. One of my other favorite "Arnoldisms" is when he was asked about female attention. He equated his physique to walking down the street with a Panther on a leash-"You're going to get attention." Great stuff.

    Jealousy IMO.
Fear does not exist in any object or situation. It is constructed by you alone, a barrier to progress, imposed solely by your mind.

I think it's ignorance. When I watched Bigger, Faster, Stronger, that answered some of my questions as to why steroids are demonized. The government puts a lot of effort behind making steroids evil. I think one of the main reasons is that they see steroids as cheating and they ruin pro sports. However, I think the majority of users are people working out in their local gym, trying to improve their physique.

The only people that criticize are the people that are too stupid to realize what it takes, where the limits are and assume that all of their heroes did it without them.

Agreed it is for the most part ignorance. Also a big portion of it is fear aggression, people are afraid of what they don't understand. So making the choice between learning, and hating for most is an easy choice..... To hate requires very little effort, or time. vs. research which could seriously take away from their Dr. fknphil time, therefore it is easier to hate. Humans are lazy, and critical by nature, sad really.

What is really bizarre is that a Gold's close to me only has dumbbells up to 85 lbs b/c higher would encourage steroid use.

Exactly right. It is just like anything else that has to do with bodybuilding. People don't understand the dedication to diet, training and especially AAS. To me it is a passion, a love. That's why it is hard for me to associate with people who don't do it. They just don't get it. That is another reason why I love this forum...I can discuss issues important to me with like minded individuals.

Thanks for using the correct quote. Never been great with details. Probably should look it up before I post, but I also suffer from extreme laziness, outside of the gym, anyway.

i was natural until i reached 23. tried to wait as long as possible. and seeing these dudes in the gym all jacked and obviously on roids made me jealous. i felt like they were "cheating". but i didnt fully understand aas. it sure made me curious to see these dude transform over the course of the year. so i turned from jealousy and hating to questioning.

we all start somewhere. dont hate on the haters. they dont know any better lol.

I'm not that big. When I gt my big on I look like and OK local 1980s bodybuilder. but man put even 3 wheels on the flat bend and watch all the pencil necks smirk at you. It's pretty pathetic that anyone that is strong and has a decent build is chastised. Physically strong is completely out of vogue. It's almost like having a disease or something. forget it if you are over 250 with low bodyfat. You are essentially an outcast. 25 years ago we would all go out together and the women loved us. Everybody loved us. They loved the strong rugged good looking guys. If you had a personality it was like a recipe for success. Now it's like you have to have an exceptional personality and whit to overcome the physical look like what fat people use to have to fight.

They try to demonize what they can't achieve. It makes them feel more secure about their lack of success.

well some of the big guys have attitudes like they own the gym, and monopolize machines, and laugh at weaker guys. in high school i hated that crowd.... but now im 5.10 and 255lbs lol.

you have to admit there are some douche bags that run gear lol. they are all roid raged up when someone grabs a machine they stood up from in the middle of sets and slam weights while you are concentrating. its those guys that make us look bad man....

I don't hate on steroids, even when I was a kid hearing about them. I do, however, hate on bbing because I honestly think it's gay; I mean think about it, you're prancing around in a thong rubbing oil on you and you place based on the opinion of your looks. I do respect the attention to detail you guys place on bringing up certain imbalances in your physique, attention to diet, cardio, everything else as I too am kinda OCD like that, but I just don't get BBing, and I probably never will...
I prefer SM/PL due to the fact that you know exactly what you have to beat to win. You place based on numbers, unless you there's a bullshit call where a ref must have missed you locking out the weight, then that would be an opinion issue.... And your competition is essentially over by the day of your show in BBing whereas in SM/PL you still have to compete and work. BBing is all done in advance, I mean you still have to work out your carbs and water issue, but that's all essentially done in advance too.

That's bullshit man; even before I was saucing, I was maxing out our DBs at my Gold's which are 140s.
