how beneficial is swimming while on cycle?

There's a pool at my gym I rarely use but I hear swimmings great for hitting those muscles that don't normally get used in weight training. Is it worth doing a few times a week?

Great cardio. Nothing wrong with swimming some laps. I wouldn't use it for gaining mass, but more so on the cardio side.

Swimming is great cardio. Just be careful not to overdo it if you are bulking.

As an exercise physiologist, I can say that swimming is great cardio, especially when used in conjunction with running, biking, hiking etc. It gives you a great cardio workout without all the impact. I always recommend complimenting it with some weight bearing cardio though. I swim, bike and run and it prevents overuse injuries.

I've been swimming every morning for the past 6 years...it's the first thing I do when I wake up. There is no better method for cardio IMHO. You work nearly every muscle in your body. But as stated above, don't go crazy with it if you are trying to bulk.

there's a big difference in cardio and aerobic activity.......while swimming is excellent for aerobic activity and improving lung capacity, etc, i don't recommend it to try to stay lean.....i was a nationally competitive swimmer throughout high school and while in the army i still competed at a high level......your body creates thicker skin as a protective barrier against the water.....also on gear, cramping will become a huge issue and something feared in a swimming pool no matter how good of a swimmer you are........hydration is also an issue....just because you can't feel yourself sweat in water, you're still sweating quite a bit........

then you have the issue with pool chemicals drying out the skin too much......when you bend down to tie your shoes and your whole back feels prickly and cracking you'll know what i mean

all that said......definitely not good for bulking either......great overall exercise, but not so good for your goals stated

Swimming is the best. Especially if you live near SoBe. The same Stepper/Treadmill/Jump rope can get boring. Also it's a great reason to take my shirt off
