    any problems using rubbing alcohol??

Forgot to get swabs when I ordered my pins, so I just picked up a bottle of rubbing alcohol from the store. Swabs are the same thing (isopropyl) yes? So is there any reason I shouldn't use it?

70% alcohol is the most effective at killing bacteria. If it's 70%, then it's good to go. Just learned that in microbiology class. 100% doesn't permeate the bacterial cell wall as good as 70%. anyways...

I have to hide my gear from my wife too. Thats why I have to use long ester stuff. I obviously cant find time away from her to pin everyday. It sucks but it is my reality.

ahhh....micro b as well...pay a bit more attention LOL...or i may just be old school... as alcohol breaks down the cell wall of microbes i does so as it drys/evaporates.... so if u ever see your nurse use quickly wipe u down with RA then poke up its all for show....we do the same thing for animals and its just a psycho somatic thing for the clients....the RA doesnt really kill much with all that fur of the animal (i am a vet tech)...in people...it is much better... but just a show as well unless done right... just look at how many heroin addicts die from overdose rather then systemic infection!!! yea...fukcs with your brain doesnt it.

u got nothing to worry about but be safe... i whether u use 70% or 90% just scrub the area with one cotton ball soaked and then finish up with a cotton ball just slightly soaked with the alcohol....let dry without blowing on it...remember to dab some on the tops of your vials and let if evaporate...and have fun pinning. just my 2 cents....do more research to confirm.

very true, I've known some H users and not one of them ever swabbed, and never known any of them to get an infection either, even when reusing a needle!!! So yeah I'd say the chances really are pretty small, but of course better safe than sorry
