Nolva: effect on IGF-1 and issues with 19-nor's

Can i first point out that we must be very careful with links like this and peoples opinions based on peer reviewed studies because they can not only be interpreted the wrong way they can also make giant leaps that that are totally unfounded.
Lets take your link as an example.
It says "Another popular explanation of the weakening action of Nolvadex is provided by studies which have shown that it reduced the plasma level of IGF-1".
Now i have studied andrology, oncology and endocrinology for many years and the only example of tamoxifen decreasing IGF-1 is in breast cancer cells, somehow the author and everyone else on the net has construed that therefore it's bad for us. Well, thats not necessarily the case because there are studies that show tamoxifen increases IGF-1 in brain cells in primates so to make such a general analogy is irresponsible and rather naive.
This unfortunately happens all to often as is the case with tamoxifens upregulation of Pgr, someone made a giant leap here again and it's now parroted on forums that you should not take tamoxifen when using 19nors, there no evidence to support this for our purposes as the only studies show an increase in Pgr in uterine cells.
I hope you can see what i'm getting at here.

This was posted by a MOD on another forum I visit.

It's exam season here, so I really don't have the time to research the claims he has made.

What are your thoughts on this?

I will post a pubmed study that a member here made me aware of that will show why it is said to lower IGF1. I will look for something for the 19-Nor use too.

    Abstract

Accumulating evidence indicates that telomerase activity and human telomerase RNA (hTR) play a potentially crucial role in maintaining the malignant progression of human gliomas. Tamoxifen (TAM) induces cell growth inhibition by modulating several cellular activities, including signaling pathways and the cell cycle. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of combination therapy with TAM and antisense hTR on malignant glioma growth in vitro. TAM treatment and the down-regulation of hTR expression by antisense hTR resulted in a significant suppression of cell growth and the induction of cell apoptosis through the inhibition of telomerase activity. The antitumor effect of treatment with TAM alone was found to be mediated in part by the down-regulation of telomerase activity and of PKC and IGF-1 expression. Our results indicate that TAM and antisense hTR may serve as a novel strategy for glioma therapy.

Thanks TGB, that was very informative once I got my head around it.

To what extent does the fact that cancer patient were used for the study affect the validity of the results, specifically how it relates to healthy individuals?
