    Steroid Harm Reduction Clinics in Scotland Allow Steroid Users to Avoid Junkies

    Steroid Harm Reduction Clinics in Scotland Allow Steroid Users to Avoid Junkies
    By Millard Baker

    A harm reduction clinic catering specifically to users of anabolic steroids has opened in Scotland. Steroid use is decriminalized in the United Kingdom and government officials recognize that steroid users are demographically different from traditional recreational drug users. The steroid harm reduction clinic was designed for this distinct group of individuals who use performance and physical appearance enhancing drugs.

    Research indicates that the typical anabolic steroid user is a highly-functioning, highly-educated, health-focused, goal-oriented, professional earning an above-average income who attempts to use anabolic steroids responsibly in order to improve muscle strength, body composition and physical appearance. It is no surprise that steroid users do not see themselves as drug addicts and do not wish to seek harm reduction services alongside cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine users.

    A harm reduction nurse explains the objectives of the clinic:

    “We are aware, as is the case throughout Scotland, that there is an identified group of people who use performance and image enhancing drugs.

    “They don’t see themselves as drug users and for this reason they may not be keen to access services that are historically known as being for drug users, which is why we have set up this clinic.

    “The clinic will be run out with normal hours, hopefully making it easier for them to attend – bearing in mind that this client group will mostly be working and will not find it easy to get away during the day.”

    The harm reduction approach in the United Kingdom is clearly based on science as administrators even recognize that most steroid-users, unlike drug abusers, are highly-functioning and fully-employed individuals who must schedule harm reduction appointments before or after work.

    Meanwhile, law enforcement officials in the United States seem content to ignore the steroid use demographics and treat steroid users as no different than cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine users. The troubling ignorance regarding the demographics, motivations and patterns of use by steroid users highlights the unfortunate underpinnings of current flawed steroid law enforcement policy. Law enforcement officials seemed more interested in promoting morally-based anti-steroid propaganda than actually developing services that promote the health of steroid users.

    Sounds like Scotland has accepted the reality that aas users are typically the very kind of high-functioning highly-educated people the article paints them as. I am.

    Someday, the US Authorities will take their heads out of their arses and see things for what they really are.

    Note to US LE: There's a tiny microscopic difference between AAS-users and traditional hard street drug junkies. Yes, there is. Like it or not.

    Actually it's not microscopic. To me there's a mile wide rainbow separating me from a crack had or a heroin addict and anyone who remotely compares me to an oxy contin junky or anything else of that nature can go fuck themselves and do some research. (CRITICS ME)

    I couldn't agree more. The "tiny microscopic" was sarcasm which I'm sure you got. AAS users to crackheads is night and day. It's purely assanine to lump them in the same category. Anyone who does is wrong - plain and simple.

    And anyone who critiques my aas use can go eff themselves and their mother and sister. (No I'm not bitter lol).

    I am not even sure why they associate AAS with drugs that we in America have come to know i.e. cocaine, meth, ecstasy, acid etc... I mean when you put AAS in those same categories it makes them sound extreme, family ruining, addictive country wide, and will eventually leave on the streets. I don't think I have ever seen a steroid junky on the corner of street with a sign saying will work for food. Nor have I read or seen enough reports on actual "abuse" to even say that AAS is being mistreated as though previously mentioned. The problem is the FDA is a beau racy of the MONEY HUNGRY POLITICS and will be another puppy to the masses. I mean really, a guy is freaking enormous with strength and is in the gym, great citizen, isn't beating his wife or selling his house to buy steroids. Hmm, good job again politics. How about instead of getting fat off me you go to the gym yourself, inject, and look in the mirror and enjoy the affects.

    I think a lot of the problem in the U.S. is because of sports. For example, baseball-"America's past-time"...

    I love this sentence;
