Steroid Dealer Pleads Guilty in Operation Newton By Millard Baker ~ source
A Canadian man pleaded guilty to the possesion of anabolic steroids for the purposes of trafficking in the Ontario Court of Justice this week. Ontario Court Justice Timothy Culver sentenced Trevor Armstrong to 18 months probation and 200 hours of community service. Trevor Armstrong was one of 21 people arrested in April 2010 for their participation in an illegal drug distribution network “loosely affiliated with the bodybuilding community”. The 18-month multi-agency investigation codenamed “Project Newton” involved both steroids and recreational drugs.
Project Newton involved several sports nutrition stores including Herc’s Nutrition in Hamilton, Herc’s Nutrition store in Stoney Creek and Premier Nutrition in Grimsby. One million dollars worth of anabolic steroids and $3 million worth of crystal methamphetamine were seized by police. The steroids and recreational drugs were allegedly sold through these stores.
Police also seized $400,00o in vehicles including a Porsche Carrera, GMC Denali and BMW 750 and $140,000 cash that allegedly represented the proceeds from the illegal sale of steroids and methamphetamine.
The primary targets of the Project Newton investigation were brothers Reiner and Alex Ruska who operated two Premier Nutrition supplement stores. They were also accused of operating a clandestine underground lab (UGL) that produced anabolic steroids and also methamphetamine. Police announced that the bust was “the largest single seizure of crystal methamphetamine outside of a (clandestine) lab setting in Canada”.
The cases against Reiner and Alex Ruska are still pending.
