You have to aspirate buddy keep that in mind. What does your 1ml of hcg equal? 250ius 500, 1000? Can't help you there if you don't specify how you mixed.

I always aspirate, but it's really not that big of a deal. I know several people who have been pinning for decades and have never aspirated.

Also he wasn't asking for any help from what I read, just sharing his experience.

OP, nicely done bro - it really is a cake walk once you get over that initial fear. Just as a heads up, you'll probably have injections where you nick a vein or nerve, some can be more or less painful, etc. but sounds like you got a nice easy one for your first and despite a couple slight mistakes did fine with it. Welcome to the dark side

Yeah you will have some that are a little less smooth, but I've never had one that was outright painful. I've had a few in the quad that twitched a little bit, odd but easily bearable, some will drip a little blood etc. For the most part they're all super easy and once you get over that mental hump of the first one it's all gravy

1 ml is 1000 so I was supposed to do 500. Should I just continue on 500 twice a week or should I skip the next one? I think technically I didn't have to start right away (lots of sources say start on week 2) so I am thinking waiting a week shouldn't mess things up.

If I was you I would wait till next week than continue hcg at 500iu 2x a week.

i wouldnt even worry about it till week 3 or 4 personally, but prob only helping gettin it going this early .. you'll be fine with skipping the other shot of hcg this week and considering the 1000 your 2x500 for the week

Whys that?

Several reasons....

They don't even teach RNs to aspirate any more.

The EBP and ACIP also do not recommend aspiration. Some argue not to aspirate vaccines, but to aspirate other drugs. Jet injections are not aspirated though. I know many who have been using AAS ED for many many years who have yet to aspirate.

According to the CDC they state-

"Aspiration - Aspiration is the process of pulling back on the plunger of the syringe prior to injection to ensure that the medication is not injected into a blood vessel. Although this practice is advocated by some experts, the procedure is not required because no large blood vessels exist at the recommended injection sites."

"Aspiration is not indicated for SC injections of vaccines, immunizations and insulin."

"Aspiration is not indicated for IM injections."

Organizations which state aspiration is NOT necessary:

Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
Department of Health Services (DHS)
American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
U.K. Department of Health (DoH)
World Health Organization (WHO)

I wouldn't argue with them. ^

Some institutions still do. However, once you get out into the "field" and see how fast-paced it is, you modify what you were taught and do what you have to. I still do, but that's because I am injecting someone else so I like to make sure I'm in the right spot.

Like you said though, "old habits die hard...."

I know you don't have to aspirate cause it takes ridiculous amounts of oil to in a vein to kill you, etc. etc.

But not aspirating and coughing up a shit storm cause oil just hit your lungs is always a bitch. Just saying V_V

I must ask a question. I for the past two years have been pinning my glutes with a 22g 1in. most have stated that I should be using a 1.5in. Could anyone provide a explination to this ? I chose the 1in due to the thickness of my glutes for there is not much there at all. Any input would be most appreciated.

1.5 would just get it further into the muscle belly and may be necessary if the layer of subcutaneous fat is thicker than .5 inch. 1" should be okay though for lean glutes. There was a poll in here not too long ago pretty evenly split among people using 1 and 1.5

I use 1.5" on my glutes but 1" will work just as well. The reason I use 1.5" is just to play it safe. Needles are prone to breaking, even though they were designed to bend. Say you fully inject 1.5" into your glute and the pin snaps off and have nothing to grab on to in order to pull it out? What do you do? NOTHING...aside from taking a trip to the ER.

I always leave enough off the pin showing when I inject, this way I can pull it out if it breaks off. Don't forget, if you are pinning yourself...your whole body is twisting and your arms are bending all over the place. 22g is what I use as well...I want that pin in and out as fast as possible. Keeping it inside you for to long and having it wiggle around will cause excess scar tissue. IMHO!

Dude...that is shit to think about bro. I never thought about breaking a needle. I pushed it in to the hilt and pressed it as hard as I could to make sure it made it past the fat; I'd have been fkd if I broke it.

Something to think about for sure.

To break the needle off, you had to have a really shitty needle or be moving that syringe around all over the place.

You know when you have gone far enough because muscle tissue is thicker than fat. I can't explain but obviously you have done it before.

The bigger you are, the harder it is to hit your glutes. Too much movement can cause the pin to snap. I try to take every precaution I can in this game we play! I've seen this happen to a friend of mine years back....all I remember is him screaming, "WHAT DO I DO?!? WHAT DO I DO?!?". And off to the ER he went....wonder what he said, "I sat on a syringe?" Ha!

How about "I was going down a slide and some heroin addict must have booby trapped it with a used syringe."

(something like this actually was going on for awhile in SoCal. Someone was putting razor blades on slides in little kids' parks so parents had to be on the lookout before letting the kids play. If they ever caught whoever did that crap, hope he paid for it dearly)
