    Taking Thyroid T3 or T4?

"Thyroid hormones cross the plasma membrane primarily by transport mechanism. Once in the cytoplasm, these hormones bind to receptors within the nucleus and on mitochondria. The hormone-receptor complexes in the nucleus activate specific genes or change the rate of transcription(mRNA). The change in transcripition rate affects the metanolic activities of the cell by increasing or decreasing the concentration of specific enzymes. Thyroid hormones bound to mitochondria increase the mitochondrial rate of ATP production"

"Thyroid hormones enter the cytoplasm and bind to receptors on mitochondria and accelerate ATP production"

Again this came from my medical textbook Im currently enrolled in.

There are four iodine molecules in T4 but it loses one of the atoms (single element) of iodine from these molecules (combined elements), which is removed from its outer ring once converted into T3 which will then have three iodine molecules. The T3 it converts into is at least four times more powerful in spite of having one-less iodine molecule and is more active in regulating bodily metabolism. When looked at it from this point of view, T4 is less active, with the purpose of being on stand-by as a reserve hormone, to be converted into the active T3 as needed in the body.

I should've been more specific on the name of the thread. It was meant to those who want to or thinking of taking T3 or T4. As Ive heard a few fat people, one personally, lose weight when they went to see an endocrinologist and had their Thyroid checked.

Actually the secret to getting shredded beyond all belief is to permanently increase your metabolic rate by naturally increasing your thyroid hormone output. But here’s one for the science books: T-3 actually causes your thyroid gland to increase peripheral specific thyroid hormone turnover. That’s your thyroid hormone T4, which is specifically coded to attach to your individual cellular-receptor site and form active thyroid hormone, T3.
