My girl friend is 5'7" 167 pounds. She looks pretty good but she is trying to get into a bathing suit body. I have had her on a diet and 3 miles a day on the treadmill and 20 weight sessions 5-6 times per week. This is week six and she is down 1 pound. I have been on same routine on my cut this year. I'm down 21 pounds in the same time frame. Should I try t3 with her. Neither of us are on fat burners and both on a large calorie deficit. This blows my mind and makes no sense
what does her diet look like? maybe her metabolism has stalled out from cutting calories too much. Although with the routine she is on, one pound doesnt make much sense. Like someone else stated, have you noticed any recomposition? The amount of fat she lost could be greater than one pound, but you have to take muscle gain into consideration.
She doesn't sneak out at night and come home later with her breath smelling like Oreo cookies does she?? JK
My wife was having the same problem. I had her up her calories a little and she started losing weight. Remember, her body will go into starvation mode if calories are too low. Her body will try to keep fat and will burn muscle instead. Last suggestion...up the intensity of her 20 min. weight sessions. Intensity is key to shedding pounds. Too many girls just go through the motions when lifting weights. Good luck Bro!!
I agree with prize, albeit I don't understand as much about women's physiques as I do my own. My wife refuses to get her thyroid checked or at least try a small dose of t3 eventhough she has a huge family history of thyroid probs. Instead she wants to just bitch about being overweight - Even when she worked out like a beast, at 38 the pounds wouldn't come off. Diet was pretty solid but she tried to comsume too many liquid calories (protein Shakes) and not enough at that.
Water retention might be a huge prob as well. If she's up for it, she could try a juice fast. I did one for 7 days just before starting my blast and shed 17 pounds off my ass. It serves as a detox for the body too. I have a plan I can send you or you can look up info via google. I'm actually gonna use it again at the end of cycle for contest prep. PM me if you want it.
Also look into IML extreme lean

I don't like jumping on T3 just because you don't see the scale move. Remember, the scale only measures the sum total weight of your bones, lean muscle mass, bodyfat & water weight. Also keeping in mind that women's bodies can fluctuate 3-8 lb of water weight from morning to night in a given day. That really isn't telling you anything useful about body composition, is it?
Also she sounds similar to my traditional stats. Let me relate an experience I had in 2005 when I was starting my first competition prep after 5 yrs of personal upheaval (i.e. post "Internet bust", getting laid off, moving to 3 different states over 3 years following different jobs, uprooting my life, etc.). When I started my prep out of off-season shape, in the first 5 weeks that I started, my bodyfat changed 8%, but my weight only changed by 2 lbs. So, fine if you want to look at the scale as one point of measure, but if you draw all of your conclusions about "progress" from it, you're better off throwing it out the window. At a minimum, pay more atttention to how her clothes fit. And also don't get her depressed about progress so she starts to give up on the program. Consistency is also critical for progress.
I would generally tell you that it takes the body 3 weeks to adapt to any given new habit. I would also tell you that diet is very important if you are looking to make any significant change in body composition. So to that end, please let's go into the discussion of diet before we even bring up playing w/ prescription substances.
Please post up her current typical day's meal plan, as:
Meal 2 (11 am)
4 oz chicken breast
4 oz sweet potato
1 cup spinach
etc.
Even better, have her, or you, put it into a food counts program like FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal so know what she is REALLY eating - i.e. total cals, macronutrient breakdown (i.e. %, grams of protein, fats & carbs).
Ehh. Her body recoup is somewhat notable. But I was expecting 10 pounds off maybe. I wouldn't think she filled with 7-9 pounds of muscles. She is at 1500 calories. From truly sandwiches, assortments of fruit and broccoli. Grilled chicken thrown in there as well

I don't know anything about this girl, but the point is body recomp right? And not whether or not the scale moved? I can do a water drop and make the scale move 10 lbs overnight. So what? It takes time for a body to accommodate changes. The point is to move towards a maintainable change right? Let her body do what it does best. I personally think 1500 cals is maybe too low and I would suggest moving it more towards 1700-1800 and go to a carb rotation.
My primary point is to PLEASE don't introduce her to the world of hormone manipulation when I can probably guarantee that her diet is not optimized and she's made a sudden and dramatic change in her activity levels on a restricted diet and maybe her body isn't going to respond immediately the way you want in 3 weeks or less. Popping pills is the last thing she needs to learn how to do if she wants to make a change in her body composition.
Give it time & stick to it. If you want some suggestions on an optimized diet, please feel free to post up a meal plan as I suggested. Women are more sensitive to thyroid hormone and all the things that produce quicky results in guys don't always work that way for women because of the complication of estrogen. Its not necessarily predictable, but like I said, self-medicating w/ thyroid supplements is not what I'd recommend after a lousy 3 weeks. If she's seeing body comp changes something is working. Let it work!
It's really nice to see someone new looking for good advice(Thanks Sassy!) and actually listening to it. Gulfcoastgorilla, you have a wealth of information at your finger tips being offered by Sassy. Your girlfriend just has to ask and she'll get the answers she needs to progress.
