Thread: how long after injection to notice infection symptoms?

i took a shot in my delt friday. i may have gone a lil lower than usual on my delt so it could be fresher area...sunday the pip got worse and has remained kinda the same since then. this is not the normal pip im used to. so far no swelling or redness or fever....just pip that feels different than usual

There is no 'timeline' that will tell you whether it is an infection or not.. It's based on symptoms for the most part... If you have an infection(in any injection site, not just shoulders) you will usually notice that the area gets red, can be inflamed/swollen, and warm to the touch...

What you did is probably got the oil between the proximal tie-ins of the biceps, and the bottom of the delt(possibly in the space between two muscles...). If you got the oil in a 'pocket' between two muscles it can become very uncomfortable(as it is not picked up and pulled into the bloodstream like it is if it is IN the muscle), and it just forms a 'bubble' which is stuck there for much longer than normal... This can cause a fair bit of pip.. and it will feel different than pip from an IM injection(since it isn't in the muscle, but rather between two muscles...)...
Someone mentioned 'heat'... this is about the best thing you can do for it right now... heat will draw circulation to the area, as well as thin the oil, so it has a better chance of leaving the 'pocket' it is trapped in...

If the area does begin to get more swollen, and red, warm to the touch......It may be developing into an infection, and you should immediately go to the DR, if it becomes infected....
