At such a young age he should not be messing with the stuff IMO.

To have that extra edge. Some people are heavy smokers others are alcoholics, this guys chose to use steroids. At least they have something to show for it.

My main beef is that the person should know what they are doing with training and diet first. Secondly at that age, he may be giving up on some growing that has not finished, and if the guy is 5'8" I'd want to finish growing first.

If you are going to use steroids, I would think the best time to use them is when you have reached a plateau with natural training. (I mena plateau witrh muscle growth not weight amount)

At your age, I doubt you have reached 30% of your potential.

At 16 your producing more natural testosterone (steroids) than you ever will in your life, if you start taking steroids now your body will stop producing the huge amounts of steroids it already does. Why shut that down at its peak?
So I hope YOU are not considering using steroids.
But don't judge adults, everyone has their reasons and some are very legit. Some people use their "chemical" advantage to put food on the table, to remain competetive in professional sports, modeling, personal reasons etc.

Oh really, where did you come by this information? I have actually heard a completely different theory, however I fail to see how a young person is in a worse situation than an older person, I dont buy it and have never seen data on this so I'd like to know.

Testosterone causes puberty, teens have higher levels than adults, that's the primary reason acne is such a problem with teens - high tesosterone levels. All I was saying was a teen should go with his natural advantage (higher natural test) and those hormone feedback loops are so delicate I think its especially unwise to F with them at such a critical juncture in development. Also the liver is not fully devoloped until after puberty and most kids I would think would opt for straight oral steroids.
I know Mudge knows a lot more than I do about the specifics, just offering my opinion.

I would not push it on a kid ever, they should not be messing with it at that age, but I have never seen or heard anything magical about it screwing up thier permanent T/E levels because of thier age.

Steroidal acne and increase hair growth are not unheard of, since you are putting yourself in that puberty zone again.

Athletes take them to be bigger, stronger & faster and gain that edge in pro sports.

Bodybuilders have no choice, to get big enough to compete at the pro level they have to use them

Recreational bodybuilders take them for personal reasons, ego boost, increase self confidence, they want to be bigger and stronger for personal reasons.

If used "correctly" the health risks are minimal. Personally, I do not use them because they're illegal.

5'8" ain't that short man, I am about 5'9" and that is a great height for a BB. Imagine how much harder it is to fill out a 6'5" frame. It is easier to appear bigger at a smaller height. Now for a basketball player things are different. bodybuilding is one of teh few sports that being an average height isn't bad.

Do you realize how long of an answer I could give you man. It is a bit of a complex and depth discussion that it would take to answer that. Try doing a search or do some proactive research to learn something, what a novel idea huh.

People take steriods to make gains where there maximum genetic potential left off. I've honestly never juiced. But I've read a decent ammount on steriods, and I'm definatly going to look into it in 2-3 years.

    word

i'm 6"3, my homie is 5"7 or 5"8, a lil short... we both have the same size arms and both play for the basketball team and everyone is like, "damm marks arms are big!", he looks really filled out, while i look a decent size but not that huge at all

for bodybuilding being short is an advantage, smaller limbs are better for lifting big weights too, so don't complain!

I think no body under the age of 21 should be fooling around with steroids and even pro hormones at that matter. But what kid is going to listen. I hope he likes he's happy at the height he is right now.

    Many variables:

He may not be taking an optimal cycle, or enough to cause growth.

He may may not have a proper diet or be eating enough calories and protein.

He may be taking fake steroids (popular on the black market).

He may not have the genetics, I knew guys in high school that just did not respond to steroids, except for strength gains.

Or, maybe he is just full of shit and is not even taking steroids.

Sounds like his diet is crap or he has no idea what he is doing in general, or perhaps he is full of crap. Maybe he is taking a legal supplement and doesn't know what it is, who knows.
