ive noticed that when i break the top fo the amp off, small pieces of glass fall into the juice that i am eventually going to draw out. Now i draw with a 23g tip so what are the chances of me drawing one of those pieces of glass into my syringe

Are you using an amp opener? I use a cutting wheel @ 15,000 RPM (yes, redneck).

Other than HCG I refuse to buy amps, they are a pain in the ass (PITA) in more ways than getting them open. I prefer vials, easy to store, easy to use.

the amps of deca i have are kinda pointy so i just take the needle sheath and put it on the amp then bust it off.... i think the odds are pretty low that ill get a piece of glass thru my 23g needle though

Lots of little pieces of glass at the bottom would concern me. Invest in the opener or the wheel,

Basically what happens is when that thing busts, the top flies off. Most of what seems to make the action work is the buildup of heat.

I have tried using a pen top to bust an amp open and will never do it again, this was with a PRE SCORED amp but I nearly disintegrated the whole amp. Some people have the technique down but I'm not going to practice. I know one other person using the cutting wheel and it works great. I however use 25g to pull with, and if there is glass dust in there yes you will get it inside of you. Shards of glass? Thats more iffy, shards are much larger than dust.

Anyhow for a few bucks I'd get an amp opener, maybe I will someday.

Amps are the little things you have to break open, a vial has a rubber stopper at the top and holds 5cc or greater, where an amp will generally hold 1-2cc.

That is a nice thought. I freakin hate needles. Never liked them. It is going to take alot from me to give one to myself.

Mudge, do you start the wheel about where the amp is the narrowest? Can I use a dremel?

I would buy vials but if this place online works for me, they just sell amps.

mostly your gonna see vials for UG gear...most huiman grade your gonna find is amps

Michael what I use is a small cutting tool (like a mini dremel), it does up to 35k RPM, and I use the regular old skinny cutting wheels and it seems to work quite well at 15k RPM.

Oh, you should see a score mark on the amp but generally yes I do it at the neck.

my step dad was in a car accident that put him through the windsheild. years afterwards he was still dropping tiny bits of glass out of his face.

if your getting glass in your amps and you dont want to just toss the stuff. the best thing i could say for you is to let the amp sit a while and just pull from the very top and leave a little at the bottom. the risk is still there and you will still be wasting some gear but if your determined to do it and dont want to waste 1 out of every three amps this would probably be your best bet. other than getting an amp opener

You can buy buy needles with filters that is what we use in Nursing school when we use amps. So if you are going to be using amps I would definatly try to get some of those filtered needles. Just my .02

My thoughts exactly. It's not like you are the first one to have this issue. In six years on these boards, I have yet to see a thread about someone injecting glass shards.
