Reply With QuoteFalse. Since Synthroid is basically T4, You could enter a situation where you do not convert the T4 to T3. Since T3 is the more active hormone, if this situation occured you would have a lowered metabolism. This is called Wilson's Syndrome. Here is a link.

correct me if im wrong...
but If i have NO thyroid gland(its dead) and im on 200mcg of Synthroid as a prescription ED... My metabolism cannot slow down significantly... is that right?

If you are having to resort to 200mcg of t4, I'd say look for something else that is more effective. Dale pretty much nailed it.

But that only converts to about 50mcg of T3...so I don't think that's necessarily a high dose of T4.
Average maintenance doses for those having completed growth and puberty is 1.6mcg/kg of bodyweight.Searching for the right balance...

I think the point he's making ff is that there are probably better options if he's having to take 200mcg. But I agree, in the big scheme of things, it is not that much.

Personally, I would just get T3. Keep in mind I am saying that without knowing your total situation.
