indirectly in a sideways reach-around kind of way steroids have been known to possibly maybe cause something. some of the time.

Of course they can... They do terrible things to lipid profiles and cholesterol levels... Terrible on the liver...
Lets see, kidney damage, hair loss, gyno, acne, etc...
But if you read MD magazine, they're great for ya!!
