well if you go on etsy you will see a lot of people legally selling what is called altered art. it is clearly another artists work changed up a bit so that it's not exact and it's legal to sell. i guess the powers that be decided that is allowed. my dad used to sing songs he changed a bit to make them funny by putting our names in them etc and my kids dad would do it making them dirty. they were obviously wrought from another persons song but they were funny and entertaining and it does take some degree of creativity. it was never said that this wasn't allowed. i did think our own imagination was the point but i think if you can legally sell altered art this isn't so outrageous. next time we could just ask clear questions about what we understand is expected and what is allowed.
