Thread: Another Obama Admin/FBI manufactured terror plot has been foiled

4:11PM EDT October 17. 2012 - A Bangladeshi national has been arrested for allegedly plotting to bomb the Federal Reserve Bank in Lower Manhattan, according to court documents.

Update at 4:06 p.m. ET: Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, 21, was taken into custody after assembling and attempting to detonate what he believed to be components for a 1,000-pound bomb that had been provided by undercover federal agents, USA TODAY's Kevin Johnson reports, citing court documents. The materials were rendered inoperable and posed no public safety threat.

Nafis, a native of Bangladesh, allegedly traveled to the United States with the express purpose of forming a "terrorist cell'' and launching an attack, according to court documents.

"Unbeknownst to Nafis, one of the individuals he attempted to recruit was actually a source for the FBI,'' the documents state.

Nafis is being charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to provide material support to al-Qaeda.

Update at 3:48 p.m. ET: Citing a person familiar with the case, The Wall Street Journal reports that the suspect "drove a car carrying what he believed was a bomb to the building in Lower Manhattan, planning to detonate the device" Tuesday night.

Original post: A New York man has been arrested for allegedly plotting to attack the Federal Reserve in Manhattan, the local NBC affiliate is reporting.

The man lives on Long Island and was arrested this morning after a sting operation by the FBI and New York police, NBC 4 New York says. He is due in court later today.

Law enforcement officials stressed that the public was never at risk.

The New York Fed is a few blocks from the World Trade Center.
