Just kidding about Muddy and NORML.
"NORML was founded in 1970 by Keith Stroup, funded by $5,000 from the Playboy Foundation. Since then, the organization has played a central role in the cannabis decriminalization movement," according to NORML's Wikipedia page.
And though the song has a favorable view of marijuana, I can find no connection between the organization and the artist.
