Saline testicle implants approved for sale in U.S. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the sale of saline-filled testicular implants, manufactured by the Mentor Corporation. The implants have been approved for use in males of all ages who've had testicles removed because of testicular cancer or other reasons, as well as for those with undescended testicles.
Implants have not been available since 1995, when silicone testicle implants were removed from the market because of safety concerns. The Mentor Corporation stated there was a public demand for a replacement product. Mentor said the FDA cleared the product based on a study of 149 implant recipients. The company said 95 percent of the participants would choose to have the implant again if needed. Mentor added that many of the participants received psychological benefits from the restoration. The Mentor Corporation, which also sells saline-filled breast implants, said the new product will be available in the United States later this summer.
