Ok well maybe for the past 5-7 days I've felt a very slight and dull chest "pain" on the upper left side of my chest. It's kind of hard to pinpoint an exact location, but maybe directly beneath or slightly above my left nipple (i'm a male).

at first I thought it was gas, or perhaps my back needed to be cracked, but now its been a few days so I'm a bit worried. I feel like I need to crack my back or something to relieve it, but it doesnt do anything.

Deep breaths don't make it better or worse. Increasing my heart rate doesn't seem to affect it either. It's just a persistent, dull, throbbing like sensation. I feel it once every 30 to 60 seconds, sometimes I don't feel it for a few minutes. Then its just like one slight "throb" that is quite dull. Sometimes it feels like there are 2 or 3 in a row, then nothing.

I'm really worried it has something to do with my heart. I have not yet been to a doctor because I am currently studying abroad (In Holland) from the US, and I know seeing a doctor would be very very expensive.

At the end of last summer I had a complete heart check (ekg?) where they put on the crazy gel things and run these tests. They also check it out with the xray machine and goo stick, or whatever. They found no problems and said I didn't need to be seen in another 10 years.

Soo I have no idea what to think. I drink a LOT of coffee and thought perhaps I would stop drinking it for a week to see if I noticed any differences.

Do you think this is stomach related? Or does it sound cardiac related?

Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

go to the doctor.

It could be heart palpitations, although palpitations don't "hurt."

It could be a stomach ulcer.

No one on the forum will be able to diagnose it though.

check out G.E.R.D.

It wouldn't be that. GERD=Chronic heartburn.

Go see a doctor, it could be any number of things you need a physical assessment by a professional, not a bunch of bodybuilders on the internet.

thanks for the replies.

I went to the hospital. After an ECG, Chest X-Rays, and 4 tubes of blood- the pain was ruled out as being cardiac related.

He gave me two anti acid pills to try and see if I experience any relief for the possibility of it being a stomach issue. I took one and didn't notice too much. The pain today does however feel more prevalent and a bit sharper as it has in the past.

Glad they didn't find anything major with my heart, sad they ran 3 unnecessary tests I will get a crazy bill for :(

Any advice on diet changes or OTC stomach acid medications?

I'm only 22, have drank coffee for years and eaten all sorts of things. I've never ever had an issue with stomach acid / heart burn / indigestion. What's going on

I haven't had coffee in like 3 days. I would HATE to have to give it up.. I love love coffee.

Might be muscular  Very difficult to tell over the internet.

Zantac is an OTC antacid, not sure of the generic name but you can look it up on rxlist.com

Good luck dude, keep us posted with your progress.

Definitely start using a good probiotic (Trouble pimped Garden of Life if you can afford it).

Digestive enzymes for the next while might help as well with GERD issues. NOW super enzymes are pretty good. Try that out for a couple of weeks.

Back off on the coffee as well. Sl-oooowly start weening yourself off of it. Or at least get back down to a cup or 2 max/day.

thanks for the input, but can you help me out here- probiotic: what is it, what does it do? price point?

Anemia via low iron intake can also cause chest pains, they had no ideas for you?

it probably is acid reflux. I had the exact same conidtions as you and they ran a battery of tests and found nothing conclusive. Check for ulcers and found it might be acid reflux. Started on tagamet or Zantec and some OTC antiacids and it's pretty much gone. Come son every once in a while especially if I lie down after a meal.

ah thanks for all the suggestions and comments.

no they had no ideas. just that it is nothing "serious" since they ruled out a heart problem. he actually said "it's just something we'll have to accept" or something.

my mom has to take Iron supplements (or did) due to anemia, but I had blood tests this past summer and checked out fine. I eat chicken and lots o spinach.

If symptoms continue maybe I'll try an OTC antacid. Thanks!

I had something like that a few months ago and Lexus (also on this board) is also having the same problems with his chest- you should PM him. I was diagnosed as having this:Costochondritis I'm not saying this is what you have but it is something to look into. Good luck.

I had the same thing, went like that for a long time everyone kept telling me it was gerds and I said it cannot be. Well tried some protonix and it was gone in two days.

I can probably help, I have the exact same symptoms you have described, and I drink more than 1 cup of coffee a day. The good news is i live in Canada and pay nothing for medical.

I am only 25 years old, when I went to the doctor I was 23, he said there is no way that this could be your heart, he proceeded with an EKG, and said definately not my heart. He gave me a sample of pills called Pariet (rabeprazole sodium tablets) = For the treatment of conditions requiring the reduction of gastric acid secretion and Helicobacter pylori eradication. I tried these and they worked!

He concluded that it is the acid in my stomach, and asked if I ever have heart burn, or regurgitate a little in the mouth at times.

He then sent me to a stomach specialist for a biopsy, to make sure I didn't have any ulcers secreting acid.

She said do not drink coffee, do not drink orange juice, apple juice or any juices...especially in the morning. The biopsy was fine (except I was awake for it, nothing like watching the inside of your stomach on t.v. while gagging on a tube).

The conclusion, keep taking the pills when needed, try to cut out the coffee and the acidy foods/juices.

Usually if I take 1 pariet pill (10mg) my pain is gone for a week. Can't complain.

P.S. I still drink coffee.

I am having the same symptoms. I am very worried and hope its not something major. I also feel the pain going to my left arm and sometimes my left shoulder. Should I go see my doctor first or should I just start taking OTC anti acid pills??????????

Go see your doctor!!

CHARLES101,

I know it has been a while but if you are still reading these posts and haven't been checked out yet GO TO YOUR DOCTOR TO GET LOOKED AT!!

Let me just say that I was randomly googling chest pain (because it is finals week and I am amped on caffeine and have chest pain) and I read your post and decided that I would join this forum only to respond to you.

Chest pain radiating to your arm or jaw is not something to mess around with. Trust me I just took a final exam on heart failure and ACS (acute coronary syndrome). You may be fine and it may just be acid but don't gamble on something like that.

You should know that if you are also experiencing Orthopnea or Paroxysmal Nocturnal Dyspnea or have decreased workout/exercise tolerance or shortness of breath these are indicators that you need to see your doctor IMMEDIATELY*

*concomittently with your chest pain that is

Hope you do not meet these criteria but I hope this helped all of you.

BTW: NSTEMI/STEMI/UA chest pain can be as bad as 7-10 out of 10 (worst in life)

For the record one time cardiac enzymes, cbc, chest xray and ekg in the emergency room do not rule out underlying heart disease completely. ( It is protocol for emergency rooms to check for anemia as part of their cardiac workup in America)

Think of them as a photograph or still time photography of your heart. A stress test, whether treadmill or combined treadmill thallium shows a better picture ( a movie) . ER docs are always discharging patients from the ER telling them their heart is ok, then when I run a stress test it shows otherwise. I am finding heart disease earlier and earlier, ( in 20's and thirties) in people with no risk factors. ( I found a 90 stenosis of the left anterior descending in a runner who developed chest discomfort after he finished the race and he was only 31). So you never know.

If your symptoms persist, by all means try the GERD treatments etc. but you may still want to check it out with a Internist or Cardiologist. ( not that family docs can't sort it out but the only difference between an internist and cardiology is usually just an extra year for non interventional and two if interventional). All cardiologists are internal medicine specialists, not family practice specialists.

Question for bandaidwoman

I read one of your post which says cardiologists and internists are almost the same except one extra year?. Is this true?. Does that mean that to be a cardiologist, you have to do internal medicine first and then specialize in cardiology?.A nice clarification will be much appreciated. THanks.

Garlic has traditionally been used by Chinese, Indians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans as a medication for several illnesses. Garlic contains vitamins and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, iron, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin C. Traces of iodine, sulfur and chlorine can also be found in garlic. Garlic is effective in treating chest diseases such as tuberculosis and arteriosclerosis.

Garlic is usually added with milk and poses the power to reduce the spasm of the small arteries, which eases pressure. It also slows the pulse and alters the heart’s rhythm. It also provides relief from symptoms like dizziness, shortness of breath and gas formation. Garlic can also help prevent heart attacks by breaking up cholesterol within blood vessels. Thus, garlic is one of the many effective home remedies for chest pain.

Hello,

I don't have much knowledge about it... but i think you should consult with doctor and should take the proper treatment for breast pain... Don't take any type of risk for this particular pain....
