These photos were taken for a specific effect. Stark portraits.
Here's Kim Harris by photographer, Martin Schoeller.
And Vicki Nixon. I heard him ask Vicki not to smile. Purchase "Beyond the Pain: The Vicki Nixon Story" to see the clip of Schoeller photographing Nixon.
Here's Lenda.
Schoeller's photo of Andre Agassi was used on the tennis star's autobiograpy cover.
Here's Angelina Jolie from the same exhibit.
Are Schoeller's photos too stark? Do you consider them art or simply unflattering?

Hey, if he wants to take some pictures of a bunch of guys and a sucker fish, why not?

Uh, it was an either/or kinda thing.
The "sucker fish" being Jolie? And the "bunch of guys" being the female bodybuilders?
Dude, I'm just going to concentrate on the fact that you have one of the coolest avatars on the planet.

I'd call the photos art, but definitely unflattering. Jolie and Agassi don't take the beating as much as the female bodybuilders do, but the dull expressionless look doesn't do any of them any favors, imo.
Lenda at least pulls off a half smirk.![]()

When it comes to the hardcore female bodybuilders (not the figure stuff), you admire them for the physiques and dedication, not their low-fat mannish faces. It's harsh, but it's the truth.
As for Jolie, I've never much been a fan of her acting or her looks. Aesthetics are very much a personal thing, and there's something about her that I just don't care for.

I won't disagree with the Jolie comment, but the low-fat faces vary greatly. Some people look good no matter what while others (looks in mirror) just cannot get a break!![]()
I find his work interesting....
