How do you contribute to the fitness industry?

    1. Do you actually attend events - expos, competitions, lift offs/challenges and the like? Support buddies who compete? I know not everyone will end up in their trunks on stage but what about throwing down some bucks to help out buddies who do?
    2. Do you train, coach, teach? Are you a gym instructor? Do you pass on your knowledge in ANY way. Have you offered to write an article for a site, forum, magazine?
    3. Do you buy magazines, books and videos/dvds? Note BUY not illegally download or upload what you did buy so others can see it for free thus robbing the originator of his or her living.

I do attend events when I can. Just posted some USBF competition videos on YouTube. Click the YouTube link in my sig if you have an interest.

Have subscriptions to MuscleMag International and Flex and am a frequent shopper at Barnes & Noble for fitness and nutrition books. Recent purchases include "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes and "Living Low Carb" by Jonny Bowden, PhD.

Never ripped any DVDs as I prefer to own and support filmmakers like Mike Pulcinella of "Raising the Bar," Joel Barham of "Driven," and Mitsuru Okabe of what seems like a million bb films.

    busy...

This industry has kept me busy for years... I think everyone that posts can say they contribute. Well from my sig I own and operate http://www.jimmachak.com/index.html which takes up the vast majority of my time. I wrote a 6 month column for the road home - every journey begins with a dream (you can check out past issues of "Machak's Body Talk there). This was an insert in a local newspaper that comes out once every week. Years ago I also wrote a few articles for bb.com. I still write articles, but now focus on upcoming competitors in bodybuilding, figure and bikini, powerlifting, and any and all MMA/UFC fighting events... etc. I also do seminars throughout Colorado and guest posed at last years NPC Steel City Championships. You can check out some vids on my You Tube channel (just type in Machak).

I honeslty can say that living and supporting this lifestyle has been a habit since I first competed when I was 16. I have always appreciated others in this industry that stay positive, don't constantly hate on others, and who are in it to better bodybuilding and fitness vs. cause controversy.

It has also been AMAZING to see Phil Heath, Andy Haman, and Heather Armbrust move up the ranks. They are both from Colorado and I have the utmost respect for all of them. I will be competing in nationals as a heavyweight this year and hope to slowly and humbly follow in their footsteps.

From the old anabolex and meso boards in the mid 90's I have had so much help over the years... and from time to time I have pm'd and have talked to many of you fellas as well since I came on here. I rarely post much, but at least once per month I stop in at all the boards and read what is said and get caught up on everything.

Well I'm blabbin there are a ton of you who have contributed to this industry. Take care and train hard!!! Next Saturday is 24 weeks out from nationals.... whew hooooooooooooooo!!!

I don't work anywhere near the industry so what I put into it is strictly at my cost of time or money. I hope I've been showing women that HOLY FUCK YES YOU CAN LIFT AND NOT LOOK LIKE A MAN! since the mid 80s. I've certainly paid enough trainers to support a small percentage of those who work in the industry. I used to buy a shitload of supplements (like everyone has I'm sure), but I've since settled on a couple basic ones. I think I pay into the chicken industry more than anything.

I've been very active online since I became aware of the online muscle community, 1999 and again, I hope I've helped answer a lot of the same questions I came to the boards with about "how it all works". I'm pretty sure I've motivated at least a few people to find their own passion in the gym, and open up a whole new way of life to them, for some, all the way to the stage. I've made a huge number of friends thru these boards, and connected others in my network via the boards as well. Some of my closest friends are a result of the boards.

I started competing 10 yrs ago, I've been attending local shows since then and several Olympias & Arnolds since. I even took a $25K pay cut at one point to make a run at bodybuilding reality show venture. (And boy did I get a reality check on how "TV" works, and also the hyuge opportunity the internet presents).

I'd love if I could find a way to join my work life & my fitness life together, but it hasn't happened yet. Otherwise, I hope I've been able to give back at least a quarter of what I've gotten from it.

    1. Sadly I haven't attended any events yet. Watched quite a few on tv/online. Really into Worlds Strongest though.

    2. I do train, currently a pro rugby player, so love that aspect of fitness.

    3. I have been involved with a program online. Its awesome as it gives everything you need to start or continue.

Are people more into just doing for themselves? Or are there a lot who like to compete?

Being fortunate enough to have owned my own company for 30 years I'll contribute funds to help offset some expenses my friends who compete. I also train with a few competitive athlete's and consider myself a damn good spotter
