Jeff Storch (Quadsweep), NPC Judge, former EliteFitness.com moderator, sentenced to prison

This past Thursday night, I made an appearance on The Derek Anthony Show. One of the questions he had asked me was whether my articles on various people were simply my duty as a journalist, or whether personal feelings come into play. In short, is it personal?

I’m human, and while sometimes my stories are very personal, other times they aren’t. Sometimes, they aren’t even in my best interest – like this one:

Jeff Storch, a well known member of dozens of message boards, under the name “Quadsweep”, has recently been sentenced to four years in prison, for manufacturing anabolic steroids and growing marijuana in his home. He was also a national level NPC competitor, as well as having been an NPC judge for the past 10 years.

Jeff began competitive bodybuilding at the age of 15, when he entered the 1985 Mr. Metropolitan, placing third in the 13-17 age group, out of a class of 13, and continued placing well in countless shows, for the next couple of decades.

Quadsweep is friends with mutual friends of mine, and although I don’t know him personally, he’s also a friend of various businesses that have supported me through the years. Unfortunately, because of his prominance in the community, as a staff member on EliteFitness.com for the past several years, as well as having been a highly successful bodybuilder in the NPC, I can’t simply spike the story and not run it.

After his arrest, Jeff posted this online:

I was careless and lazy and arrogant about things that have made my situation worse. I have seen on some boards that my intelligence has come into question! My wisdom…. certainly should be…. my arrogance? Without a doubt! But consider this. When you are watching a horror movie and you are saying…DON”T OPEN THAT DOOR! Well it is easy when you see the whole picture from afar. But when you are the actual movie it is far far more difficult to ascertain all the aspects of your situation as they are happening to you. Coupled with the daily stresses and demands of every day life and you lose sight of things you certainly should not have lost sight of.
