Planet Fitness Gyms – no more personal trainers Who needs these people? All they do is ‘rent a friend’. That is the opinion of Mike Grondahl, CEO of Planet Fitness Gyms. And while he has a right to that opinion, he is doing more than that. He is going to eliminate all personal training sessions [...]
I hope they put their membership 'injury waiver' language in front of their attorneys one more time. I agree w/ the desire to not "push" training on members, but by the same token, the number of people who have no friggen clue what to do in a gym is just scary. These are liability suits just waiting to happen.
Maybe this is why we don't see many Planet Fitness gyms because of decisions like that one. They are not popping up like LA Fitness or 24 hour fitness gyms!
I asked about personal trainers at the Paxton Street Planet Fitness in Harrisburg and two managers stated they do have trainers but they're staff employed by PF and not outside trainers.
(CEO Mike) Grondahl says the clubs will continue their “P.E. at P.F.”—physical education at Planet Fitness—group fitness training sessions. Grondahl began the letter by claiming that most people doing personal training are “just renting friends.”
Maybe I got the information wrong, but it seems that there will still be training available, but presented in a different format. Seems like semantics to me. That and a marketing tool.
Grondahl adds in the letter that personal training did not fit Planet Fitness’ “judgment-free zone” and that the company plans to use its no personal training model as a marketing tool.
Ya well their Motto "JUDGMENT FREE ZONE" is wrong !!! They have a "LUNK Alarm" staff sets it off for anyone who grunts even just a little bit to alert the whole gym to the presence of a "LUNK" .. To me that would be JUDGING !!
Also I was ask to resign my membership at Planet Fitness because I was "TOO LARGE", "USED TOO MUCH WEIGHT" and "INTIMIDATED THE CUSTOMERS" That my demeanor appeared to be MEAN like I was going now I am quoting here, "YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WANT TO HIT PEOPLE IN THE HEAD WITH THE DUMBBELLS UNTIL THEY CEASE BREATHING.."
I guess they don't want members of in the GYM who are actually in SHAPE...
For a Judgment Free-Zone.. I feel as though I was JUDGED !!
SORRY SAW A THREAD ON PLANET FITNESS AND HAD TO RELEASE MY OPINION OF THEIR COMPANY.
I LOVE MY COUNTRY !! I LOVE MY GUNS !! I LOVE MY FAMILY !! I LOVE THE WAY IT IS NOW !! AND ANYBODY WHO TRIES TO CHANGE IT.. HAS TO COME THROUGH ME!! THAT SHOULD BE ALL OF OUR ATTITUDES !! THIS IS AMERICA !!

That is totally wrong what they did.
I switched from weights to swimming a year ago and walked into a Gym/Pool in Vermont while on vacation and they asked me directly if I was going to powerlift, etc. I said, "no, I'm going to swim 2 miles". Then, the guy had a dumb look on his face!

This is all about maximizing revenue and decreasing costs. I agree with the liability statement but there are plenty of so-called "trainers" at my gym who don't even demonstrate exercises and machines properly themselves...and most of them don't even look the part of a fitness trainer. Phuckin' sad.

The trainers at a few LA Fitness have a few things in common that you get to see everyday!
1. In the AM- they are eating donuts
2. They are eating McDonald's
3. They are no older than 22
4. The male trainers are flirting with the same women and training them for free.
Side Note: My female friend who has been trained for 5 years brought in 3 new members and they all train together. She helps them with any obvious form errors, etc. and one of the male trainers complained to the LA Fit managers who turned and told my friend, no more or they will cancel her membership. Nice, real nice!
