Steroid use ok’d for New Jersey police
    by Anthony Roberts

If you’re a police officer in New Jersey wanting to do a cycle, it’s ok…just get a prescription plus a physical and psychological evaluation, and you’re good to go. A new bill introduced into the state assembly on Monday, would require health evaluations before law enforcement could be prescribed anabolic steroids and/or growth hormone. The bill would also add the drugs to the list of substances the department would test for.

This bill was introduced when the Newark Star-Ledger newspaper began a series of articles proving widespread steroid use by both police and firefighters.

Why not give routine psychological and physical evaluations to police officers who aren’t on steroids? I’ve seen more than a few badges pinned neatly over a beergut, and can remember outrunning cops on Mischief Night when I was 15, while the last time I saw a Federal Agent, I was shocked at their obvious lack of fitness. And as for psychological evaluations, I think anyone who spends the majority of their day with a deadly weapon strapped to their waist ought to be tested regularly.

But hey, that’s just me… I doubt this bill will do much to stem the tide of officers using anabolic steroids, and I don’t even know if it’s going to be constitutional for such a bill (that apparently supersedes doctor/patient confidentiality).

this is a step in the right direction.....people should fear and respect authority and be confident that they also have the strength and stamina to protect them

More laws and govt intrusion is not a step in the right direction, plus if they have a prscription why wouldn't it already be legal?

Anthony Roberts put a diff spin on the subject, but appears the same reaction/sentiment should be the blatent hypocrisy.

here is a diff take on it, with a link in this story to the newspiece done by a NJ newspaper report that blew the lid off the whole cops in jersey taking juice. all though i have to believe its not just limited to jersey. some of the cops around here are clearly juicin

Jersey Lawmakers Trying to Keep Cops from Juicing, Raging

apparently it stemed from the wide spread use among cops and they are just making it ok for em now

I think its very hypocritical. I think it's rediculous that they decided there is a steroid problem and just want to make it ok for cops to do steroids now.

It amazes me how many cops I know who think you're scum of the earth if you have a single joint, yet they wouldn't hesitate for a second when it comes to sticking 3cc's of juice in their ass.

Respect, yes. Fear? No. Fear isn't respect. Fear and lack of knowledge is what created negative steroid opinions to begin with.

i was pulled over driving from the gym one night. The cop asked me why i was so swolle, i told him im coming from the gym. He then asked if i had any drugs or steroids in the car. No bullshit.

In New Jersey, aside from certain areas like Camden (voted in the top 2 or 3 worst cities in America, all the time, often number 1) most NJ cops are either skinny new guys or fat old guys. They also have nothing to do but pull people over for speeding.

They don't need steroids for their job (i.e., being strong enough/fit enough to fight against roided up gangstas) so I don't see why they get a free ticket to roid town.
