Healthier movement in Wal Mart and Whole foods market-

both companies making a move to promote healthier food choices, offer a wider array of healthier foods, removing added cost for healthier alternatives like whole wheat or grain, and wal-mart eventually requiring certain products to meet standards such as reduced sodium and sugar in products.

I applaud the effort, not saying that it's a perfect plan but I appreciate that major corperations are recognizing both a need for some a desire to have healthier alternatives.

The plan would be even better if WalMart was a bit more aggresive in their roll out. Say, 2 years instead of 5 years. I'm assuming they have long term contracts with their current suppliers and it would probably be very costly to not honor those.

That is certainly a step in the right direction. It's difficult to not have a low cost carb based diet when on a tight budget. Plus it is planting seeds in the minds of otherwise health illiterate persons. Just read where the first lady is going to promote the wal-mart initiative. It would however be nice if it were to happen sooner. That end is all business politics. As if people didn't need to eat appropriately for a few more years.

I have a local grocery store that I get my meat and other specialty things at. I love the place. They carry unique brands from all of the country. My favorite being Vernor's Ginger ale. I haven't had one in almost a year. Damn.

Yeah, noticed I mentioned they weren't perfect. that 5 year timeline being the focus of that comment. but its something. the big plus is making healthier foods cheaper. thats a big plus, it may not encourage junk food eaters to switch but its nice for people like me who try to buy a lot of fresh produce and dont get processed box crap... except kraft macaroni and cheese. but thats a given.

^^^This, cant beat my local grocery store. Even though its a little more pricey seems like they they always have a leaner selection.

It still comes down to cost, if people only have $50 to spend on groceries, they will choose the cheapest options, hopefully these can be the healthiest choices as well
