Branch Warren Holds His Ground

A dry-to-the-bone package of muscle and cuts overtook an impressive display of mass at the inaugural Charlotte Pro Oct. 1, as Texas' Branch Warren beat Dennis James for his second title in three weeks. George Farah took third, and the Olympia qualifying berth that came with it.

Overall, the top five was a solid group, with a much-improved Mustafa Mohammad finishing fourth, and a bodybuilder seemingly on the cusp of great things, Quincy Taylor, in fifth.

After the show, Warren and Farah were in great spirits -- James, however, was obviously displeased, and made a fast exit after collecting his trophy. "I feel like I'm five percent better than at the Europa," Warren said of his conditioning. In the two weeks between the Europa Super Show and Charlotte, he was making a concerted effort to dial in, and it showed from his feathered quads to his sick upper body. He'll be rolling into the Olympia in Vegas on Oct. 15 as a force to be reckoned with.

As we reported earlier today at flexonline.com, outside of the top 5, the 19 other competitors were a mixed bag, with a few notables that have an outside shot at an O berth, if they decide to jump into the Olympia Wild Card competition Oct. 14. Coming off of his light-heavy USA victory this past July, Fakhri Mubarak made a gallant charge for the top 10 in his first professional outing (he ended up in 8th). Other top 10 finalists include Miguel Oliveira (9th), who, although unimpressive in three previous outings on the pro circuit, displayed enough size and shape to make an impact if he can get more shredded, and Delaware’s Milton Holloway (10th), who was undersized but had great muscle shape and detail. Another great story out of the evening was Greg Rando -- virtually blind, he got an incredible reception from the audience every time he stepped onstage and came in 14th.

All in all, the Charlotte Pro was a first-rate effort for a new show -- promoter Mike McCandless, who owns Bulk Nutrition, spared no expense in making sure the athletes and the audience were treated to an incredible night. He also showed the contest live online, which drew over 1,700 people to his website, www.charlottepro.com. He's already planning for next year, again in Charlotte at the end of September -- if you want to support bodybuilding at the grassroots level, and be treated to a top-notch weekend event, you'll want to be there.

Now I think Dennis got robbed, yes Branch is a little dryer but for the amount of mass on a frame like dennis's, he should have placed first.
But I guess it's just what they want that night is what matters.
If you look at pic's 3 and 6, I don't understand why farah is placed before Mustafa.
Mustafa is a bigger, harder, dryer BB and he's just overall he better bodybuilder.
I don't understand what farah is doing out there anyway, he got his pro card for free, he got the card for nothing, he did not win a amateur show, not a pro show but he is a pro anyway. and now he's placed third so he qualifies for the Olympia. I don't know why they want him up there, but I'm sure they have their reasons.

just think if we deleted the two word only thread, the post whore thread, etc., then their post counts would drop to about half!

Branch looked great. Not an overly top lineup; he deserved it. How many guys can win two shows in a row and be as "new" to the pro world as Warren? Looking sharp.

Let's all join together and SPEAK ENGLISH IN AMERICA.
