ME?? In a comp ???

BODYBUILDING SUPPLEMENTS
High Quality Supplements For Bodybuilders and Athletes. www.ironmaglabs.com
Well this is a big ask and i want you guys to be straight up with me ok!! OK!!!
Last time i saw my p/t he told me he was opening up a new gym so then he says "I'm doing a show for the opening, you should compete"
I'm like "ahh no way Mick!!"
He say's "naa you'll be right just go in the amatuers, it's not till September"
I'm like " no way man, maybe if i had a bit more meat on my chest (butterfly!!)

Well i'm showing you my last pic i was about 191lbs at 15-16%bf 6 weeks ago
I'm now about 194lbs at 14-15%

So do you think i should go for it or not?? I really don't wanna do it if i ain't got a chance of winning (that's why we compete isn't it -to win??)

How long does it take to cut?? And am i going to have to change my programme heaps or what??
Thanks guys and 'BE BRUTAL' I can take it!!

in all honesty, you look great peetrips.i have had atleast a dozen people ask me in the past'' hey should i try a bodybuilding comp'' and i tell everyone ''yes'',why? because pushing yourself to prepare for a show builds character and a whole lot of discipline but the other thing i tell them is ''don't ever leave any question marks in your life''. at least 6 people have gone and done a show, and they love it, some have gotten in to the dieting and and given up, cuz its a biatch[the first time], after the first its easier, buts its still a biatch but its up to you, personally, from your pics, go for it. theres alot of top notch people here, w8, dp,gp, are awesome. i ve done 5 myself and love it, and i'm gonna do more, i cant wait to have those three individuals help out cus i know they'll take me to the next level. peace. and without saying, the rest of you mods rock as well.

Damn Tank...that was a great post buddy And I agree!

My take......I think you should go for it. You've got some great size, you will have to work on some things and bring up some areas, work on your posing, etc. You're bodyfat is too high at the moment to begin cutting for a comp, ask RD, he's dealing w/ this at the moment and it sucks.....he let his bf get too high in the off season and is now possibly sacrificing LBM in order to come in on time. I would suggest to you, if you do go for it, that you begin now, on a very gradual cut and bring your BF to an acceptable level (~9-10%), then continue w/ a specialized maintenance diet allowing for increased LBM and decreased BF until it's time to really cut for competition. This way you'd be able to maintain the most amt of LBM...which of course is always the goal when cutting.

In regards to whether one should compete or not if they're not sure they'll win. I agree w/ Tank on this one too....always, always go for it. Not only does it build character and discipline as Tank mentioned, but I guarantee you will learn more about your body and how it responds to different foods/training than you would at any other time. That information will carry you through any furture bulks & cuts w/ optimal results!

I recently came across pics from my very first fitness competition...and I thought WTF was I thinking!!!! My physique was terrible compared to what I have achieved now. But if I had w8ed until I had 'the perfect' physique (only in my mind, I'm not saying I have the perfect physique ) to compete, I might never have gotten started and I certainly wouldn't have the experience I have now...to help myself and others. Each show you do, you learn something....about yourself, your diet, training, etc....even if you come in dead last, you'll still benefit from competing!

So, after all that babbling....I'll cut to the chase and say....GO FOR IT!!!

Interesting ...

I thought about it as well ... but I can't seem to get any heavy than 170lbs. I do think it builds character.

Peetrips ... go and kick some a$$. Like any other sport ... the first time you try it, you're probably not going to win - but you do go in giving it 100%.

just kick'in it in the ole Charger

I totally think you should do it.
I decided 3 weeks ago to compete in a comp that is next weekend. Although it is not BB and i do not have to get into single digits BF levels, it is still tough. So don't W8 start now and gradually lose your BF. You'll do great, and i agree with everyone else here, it builds character and teaches you alot about control and disipline. Keep in touch and let us know what you decide. The bod is great, just need to tweek it up like W8 said. Like my coach said: find 3 reasons why you want to compete other than to win, if you can find them then GO FOR IT! there are alot of helpful people here to get you through the next 3 monthes.

....and thats my $.02

peetrips, good luck! You look great to me... good size!!! Maybe more size in the legs to balance the top. But that's just a novice's opinion! I will cheer you on and maybe some day I'll follow in your footsteps!

How tall are you BTW?

Thumbs up

I just read your post and studied your photo. My answer is YES, you can and should compete. September will give you plenty of time to prepare. Here are some hints that may be helpful...

- Enjoy the process! Watching your body get into the best shape ever will be very rewarding.

-Concentrate on conditioning. Don't worry too much about losing muscle of scale weight. Being ripped gives the illusion of size when on stage.

-Work hard on posing. You will feel better onstage when you are prepared, and hard posing will harden and seperate your muscles.

-Don't change too much about your training. Let cardio and diet take care of your bodyfat. Your training should still be heavy to maintain muscle tissue.

-Work hard on your lateral delts and upper/outer lats. This will make you wider as you have narrow clavicles.

-Don't take it too seriously. This is not your career. Don't worry about anyone else, just yourself. You have no control over what anyone else looks like...compete against yourself and be the best YOU can be!

Best of luck!

PT, you should totally go for it. You have no idea how the adrenaline feels as they announce your name when you're standing behind that curtain and you step out in front of people for the first time knowing that you look totally kickass!

The only thing for me that's matched it (so far) is bungee jumping...we'll see if it compares to skydiving soon. Go for it, you obviously have the foundation to build a very impressive physique.

I meant every word! I know you have a trainer (yup, he rips up nicely) and that is great, but if I can be of help in any way, just ask! This is going to be a great experience for you!
