is it okay to eat fruits (like apples, pears, berries, bananas) by itself as a snack in between meals? or should i eat it with a fat/protein source?

it's okay as long as it fits in your daily macros. If you're not hitting your protein & fat macros you should take it with something with protein/fat. Otherwise fruit is fine as long as you're not going over your intended calories if you're cutting.
Cheat on your girlfriend, not on your meal.
