I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.
Nick,
Most BMR scales are poor, the effective ones give you a good baseline (usually insanely low) in which you should NEVER go under. Mine is like 1700 cals or something. As far as telling you what you actually should eat to maintain your weight, most are lacking.
Besides, if I ate 1700 cals of ice cream a day I'd lose weight. But I doubt much of it would be fat.
Anways.....
The point is, burning fat is burning stored energy. You must eat less, yes, but WHAT you eat is of dire importance, IMO. Try eating protein (1 gram per pound of LBM is a good bench) and fat in roughly equal amounts (grams) and keeping carbs very low (below 20).
This sets your metabolism on fat and gives most people a very reasonable caloric deficit that is not hard to adhere to (at least in comparison to a lower fat/higher carb caloric def).
You can also incorporate some cardio as well. Low intensity, first thing in the morning or after a 4-5 hour fasting period of any kind.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

The one Lam posted is not just BMR but BMR with expected caloric expenditure during the day, one easy way to find out is what are you eating now? Count it.

Good post MB...however, Nick is only 15 years old and I think that type of diet may be to extreme at this point. I would suggest sticking w/ slow-burning carbs Nick, such as oats, sweet potatoes, brown rice, apples, peaches, berries, grapefruit, etc.
I agree w/ Mudge as well...log your daily food intake for a couple of days and drop calories from that figure, it is the most accurate way of determining your maintenance levels, everything else is simply a guideline.
Oops he's 15! (It'd still work, though.... hahaha)
