I have a young girl prepping for her first contest and her prep week is arriving in less than a month. I'm concerned that when she does a small load of carbs, there will be a possibility of smoothing her out because she tells me that certain times of the week-she's smoother than other times and that usually entails a higher carb day.
My question is are there carb foods-complex or otherwise, that will NOT induce too much smoothing especially during her peak week? We're having a problem pinpointing exactly which ones do it, but I am guessing her whole grain bread that she feels she needs to have.
Any help on listing what potentially help and hinder would be of great help for me.

Are we talking peak week for a BB or figure? Of course carbs are going to induce some water retention cuz that's how carbs work. But the whole deal w/ a carb up during peak week is to work in conjunction w/ a carb deplete and water manipulation where the purpose is to provide water to fill out the muscles. I'm guessing this is a figure girl? The water cut and all that isn't as important cuz they like this garbage "softer look" ( can you tell I'm biased?). The deal w/ the water cut is that it will only work as well as all the weeks of dieting up until peak week. I.e. if you're not already lean, don't expect the water manipulation to make the difference.
I would ABSOLUTELY NOT be using freeking bread during a peak week. That's shit processed carbs. You want mega clean, esp if she response like that to carbs. Also noting that she may be sensitive to wheat - at the very least try non-gluten brands like Ezekial. Personally I'd stick to sweet potatos or for peak week something really simple like rice cakes. You might spend a few days experimenting w/ different types of carbs - brown rice ("wet carbs") , yams, white potatoes, rice cakes. And see which produces what response.
And I would ask why does she feel she "needs" wheat bread? I'm dying to hear why its necessary. Its NOT a traditional staple of competition prep (i.e. its processed carb and a potential wheat / gluten allergy source) and competition prep has nothing to do w/ what you like to eat or want to eat, and everythign to do w/ fueling for your goals. Taste or whether or not you feel like eating has nothign to do w/ prep - if you're willing to set aside 4 months of your life to prep for a show, then you either do it, or don't bother. If you have goofy little things you're not willing to give up if they aren't part of the absolutely optimized approach to prep, then dont' expect to win. This is the one sport where your body reflects EVERYTHING you put into your prep. There's no room for cheating or not optimizing everything. Its hardass, but after 10 yrs of doing it, that's the bottom line. You either do it 100%, or don't expect great results.
What exactly is your/her plan for peak week & what is the curent diet like?

she has a fixation on eating toast in the morning to complete her goddamn morning routine...a bit OCD dontcha think???
As for her peak week, I was not going to lower her water-actually induce more, and then on the day of, minimal water at best, until she arrives at the venue.
As for choices, she does like rice cakes and sweet potatoes, basmati rice, so I'm going to stick with that. I also agree with you when you say the unprocessed foods are best. I'm also going to rid her of gluten products 3 weeks before.
My biggest concern is that EVERYTHING looks great, except her hamstrings, which is where the remainder of fat lies. Her abs look amazing, her shoulders ripped. Everything overall looks great. I have been going with Builts Baby Got Back routine with the shoulder specialization and it has paid off handsomely. Her diet has been a constantly monitored carb rotation, with 1 cheat meal every 3 weeks. She has been dieting for about 16 weeks right now, and she is almost dialed in.
What concerns me most is that this is my first female bber and as such, I am trying to make this a good learning experience for both her and myself.

I should mention that I have dieted for several contests myself, but each time my trainer learned a new technique. I welcome it with open arms. The problem is, this fucking girl has a meddlesome boyfriend who I'd like to punch the fuck out of. He's a marathon runner and he thinks I am starving her. Not so. Built has coached me more as a friend in the last two years to make me know what is right. I havent starved her to say the very least, but this fucking guy she's with is saying that I'm starving her and that she needs to rest, and that this is crazy dieting. I'm ready to commit homicide on this fuck if he doesnt leave me alone. Marianne has been a source of amazing information for me as well, and I dont want it to be fucked up. I represent her when that girl steps on stage for the very first time, and I want her to be proud.

If she's within a month, she'll survive. So the whole argument of starving & needs to rest - guess what? That means she's on right on schedule. Also if its her first contest, the whole concept of extreme dieting puts the body thru all sorts of shocks and phases of denial in which you can't IMAGINE going without somethign (e.g. friggen wheat toast) or that you'd ever be able to do. So to that end, its a TRUST ME thing. I've been thru much more restricted diets than the first one I ever did, but it was the first one that mindfucked me the most. Once you've been thru it, you can relate to it & wrap your mind around it, but until then, its a foreign concept that appears extreme & unhealthy to the rest of the world. I will continue to argue that the fatasses of the world who can continue to carry on reasonably healthy lives at 40% bodyfat for years on end would appear to be worse off than someone dieting down for 16 weeks.
In terms of the friggen toast, is it worth sacrificing 16 weeks of work for a stupid piece of toast? I.e. she can make all the other sacrifices required for a 16 week prep, but not the toast? Keep things in perspective. Frame it like this - you'll appreciate that piece of toast a lot more if you give it up for 3 weeks and save it for your first post-show meal.
Let's hope nothing happens to the marathon guy anytime soon after that last post!
Juggernaut you don't sound too at all lol
kyle, I'm ready to make sure this guy is on a high rise so that whoops an accident has happened. He's a prick. He doesnt motivate her to do this, he comes to my gym and shakes his head when she is posing for a half hour, then he looks at the clock and his watch. He's a cunt and I dont need him fucking up what can otherwise be a great experience for a girl with a lot of talent.
