How much over maintenance is this?

Am I reading this correctly? 209 grams of fat? 47% of your entire caloric intake?
Yeah, I would say that's too much fat in your diet.
Figure out what your maintainence calories would be, then from there start by adding 500 calories. Aim for 1-1.5 grams of protein for each pound of LBM, 2-3 grams of carbs per pound of LBM and then let fat make up the rest. It should give you a good starting point. Adjust from there after a few weeks depending on what the scale is doing.

Why do you think it's too much fat? I eat more fat grams than protein grams. If you look at the percentage, my diet lately has been 130g fat, 120g protein, and about 50g carb.

I just think that it's excessive. It's nearly half his intake. I can see taking in more fat than protein, not something I would do to make muscle gains but I can understand it for other reasons but more fat than carbs? If you're trying to make muscle gains, what sense does that make?

Of course, I'm going on the assumtion (based on the admission of it taking years to get diet nailed down) that the OP isn't very lean to begin with.
Also, aren't you currently on a "get rid of muscle" thing right now?

I think B's point is that as long as minimum protein requirements are being met, the fat/carb ratio depends more on the individual. While it's cool to replentish carbs/glycogen stores while dieting for extended periods, carbs aren't entirely necessary for muscle gain.

Come on man, didn't you read the book!?!

Oh well I also thought that was too much fat. Shows my true knowledge I guess. As long as your getting the minimum protein I guess that is the main priority. I guess the best thing would be to try out what you have going there for a week or two then modify your diet accordingly.

I only looked at the pictures.

That's true. I guess it really comes down to the individual and I didn't realize that 23% of the protein still came out to 225 grams. I know I would look like that pudgy little hamburgler if I ate 50% fat in my diet.

And this, my friends, is why I abhor a percentage based approach to diet. It tells you NOTHING.

No, you would not. Not unless you maintained a surplus in excess of what gains your muscles could support.

Well, not only that, doesn't it heavilly depend on my idividual metabolic state? Let's say 50% of my diet was comprised of fat.. let's even go so far as to say that 75% of that fat are MCT's. I would still have to choose the consumtion of those fats so carefully to ensure that that they were released into the blood as opposed to stored.
At the very least, the other 25% of my consumed fat, in this case 50 or so grams each day are gonna be stored.
Personally, I would rather have the fighting chance of consuming the carbs and having them be used for something.

Built? What do you think? Am I way off base here? I'm curious because this is all a learning experience.. I wanna be sure my logic isn't completely screwed up. It's entirely possible with all the exposure I've had to Marcus!

Hey Hey! I'll have you know that my sense of reasoning and/or thought processes transcend all that is logical. Why do you think I hang out here? Obviously, so I am only required to used a smallish percentage of my (vast) mental faculties.

That's why Built left the thread....she could see the storm of genius brewing in the distance; and knew that she, if exposed to the untethered, incomprehensible realm that is the free thought of DaMayor, would surely go insane.

Or I could just e-mail her some nekked pics of myself...same effect.
