Hi, I'm a little confused about these simple sugars. As I understand you should consume them after the workout. But what about other times of the day? I know that you should stick to complex carbs - but does that mean that you shouldn't eat simple sugars at all?
What about eating the fruits during the day? Does it mean you shouldn't drink milk for breakfast too? Or a (normal) yogurt for a snack?
I'm trying to bulk up (build muscles) and I wanna know how important this is for success. Is eliminating all sugars really the way to go?
"7. Say NO to Sugar
Simple sugars and other refined carbs, are released into the bloodstream more rapidly than complex carbs and can be used for energy or converted to glycogen. This elicits a large Insulin response, which in turn causes the excess sugar to be converted to fat."
Simplified: If you want to get fat, eat sugar period.

I think fructose and lactose has its place. I don't eat a whole lot of fruit, but a banana before training is a nice sugar spike.

I was just surprised because it's very nutritious and wicked delicious.
I agree. And I find it very good for bulking purposes.
I hope I don't become lactose intolerant, I love milk way too much. Maybe by the time my lactase enzymes diminish we'll have REAL (raw) MILK which has lactobacilli in it.

I would make sweet love to that creamy goodness if I could. I am a milk drinker, and haven't had any in about 3 weeks.
Let me guess...keto?
I'm cutting right now, but I decided to take the simpler carb-cycling approach. I'm allowing myself 2 cups of milk a day. There's no way I can live without. I'm addicted. It fits my macros regardless of whether low or high carb, and the diet is working really well so far, so I'm happy!
On a side note, I know most people hate cutting, and believe me, I miss eating pasta and bread every day (though, refeeds kick ass!!), but I'm actually really enjoying it! It feels surprisingly comfortable to be on a deficit.
Then again, maybe I'm just going crazy from all the fish and greens.

I think the question has been answered. Except for post-workout, there is no real nutritional need for simple sugars. So, it's usage should be very limited at most because of it's lack of nutritional value.

unless it makes you hungry it's not that big a deal.
It's nothing wrong with making me hungry - I'm trying to bulk up and I don't often consume enough calories, so...
About the question:
I wouldn't be eating those foods because of the sugar - it's because of other nutritional values:
Milk and yogurt - protein,
fruits - vitamins.
So I know there's no real nutritional need for simple sugars but does this mean that I shouldn't eat diary and fruits during the day? I believe there's a big difference between those foods and sweets or deserts which really doesn't have any nutritional values and should absolutely be avoided.
I mean it won't matter unless it fucks with your hunger. And the foods "which should be avoided" - they should only be avoided if they mess with your goals. Most of us here are so well-nourished we can afford some empty calories.
