    Cold Water

Guys I'm trying to lose weight and I've picked up the habit of filling my stomach with cold water to make me feel full...

Does the temperature really make a difference?
    I think it might...

And how much am I really supposed to drink?
Is it a standard thing for you guys to keep sources of water around you through the day???

I seriously doubt drinking cold water will have any noticeable weight loss effects. All my drinks are cold, never helped me lose weight

    Way too complicated.
First, water has nothing to do with losing weight.
Second, the temperature has nothing to do with anything.
Third, drink plenty of water for overall health. I think the old adage of 8 - 12 glasses a day is plenty. If you drink too much, you start to piss out important vitamins and minerals.

Yes, little or no calorie drinks such as coffee, crystal light, diet soda, water, ect... can be helpful. Nobody was sayiing not to drink these, just saying to use common sense and don't get excessive with any, and that their temperature won't make any difference in weight loss.

Yes, common sense says to replace sugary drinks with non sugary drinks. It doesn't have to be water. If you want to replace them with water, go for it. If you want to have a glass of crystal light with lunch, do that too.

I'm going to be summarily gang-raped for this, but there is SOME research that shows that drinking cold water can have some positive effect on weight loss.

Weight Loss Drinks - 4 things you can drink to lose weight

There. I have proven my point by posting the gayest website I could find that covers this topic.

I've heard of this before, and it's not just cold it's also hot. Your body needs to burn extra calories to either cool or heat yourself back to normal. Sounds good, but the reality of it is that it makes no noticeable difference in weight loss. So be my guest and suck on ice cubes or eat jalapenos all day long, and the only result will be either a burnt mouth or ass.

Anything you ingest has to be processed by your body. It takes calories to process anything. Water doesn't just go from your mouth to your bladder. Warming up cold body parts also takes calories, so cold helps. Is drinking cold water a good diet plan-no. Will it burn more calories than it provides- obviously.

I would read some research on the additional water robbing you of vitamins and minerals. If I remember correctly that is not true, but my exercise science degree is a long way in the past and not currently in use!

You say, you drink cold water throughout the day which makes you feel fuller, and your trying to lose weight. And since weight loss is calories taken in compared to calories burned, therefore making weight loss come from less food, and one way to eat less is to be full.. Your saying water makes you full which makes you hungry, which makes you not eat as much, which makes your calorie intake be lower, which gives you a better chance for losing weight. hmm.. i think your analogy is somewhat correct and goofy

Exactly, I remember hearing about stars drinking so much lemon-water in Hollywood and losing weight as a result of it...

What I'm doing to feel full isn't anything new, but none of you have heard of it, am i rite?

A little research: ---can't post a link yet--

    Water-Induced Thermogenesis

Drinking lots of water is commonly espoused in weight loss regimens and is regarded as healthy; however, few systematic studies address this notion. In 14 healthy, normal-weight subjects (seven men and seven women), we assessed the effect of drinking 500 ml of water on energy expenditure and substrate oxidation rates by using whole-room indirect calorimetry. The effect of water drinking on adipose tissue metabolism was assessed with the microdialysis technique. Drinking 500 ml of water increased metabolic rate by 30%. The increase occurred within 10 min and reached a maximum after 30–40 min. The total thermogenic response was about 100 kJ. About 40% of the thermogenic effect originated from warming the water from 22 to 37 C. In men, lipids mainly fueled the increase in metabolic rate. In contrast, in women carbohydrates were mainly used as the energy source. The increase in energy expenditure with water was diminished with systemic ß-adrenoreceptor blockade. Thus, drinking 2 liters of water per day would augment energy expenditure by approximately 400 kJ. Therefore, the thermogenic effect of water should be considered when estimating energy expenditure, particularly during weight loss programs.

lemon-water i think may have something to do with a detox? I rememeber my mom doing a detox that involved, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and lemon juice mixed with a water base, and drinking only that for a while and losing major weight..

actually it takes longer to absorb because your body needs to warm it up before it can be properly absorbed .... could also cause cramps ... room temperature water is the best way to go for hydration .... cold water should burn a slightly more ... but at that your spliting hairs
