Am I the only one who does this? I seem to hold onto my gains much better when I wake up mid way through sleep down a quick shake then back to sleep. Cottage cheese/cassein pre bed didnt seem to hold me through till morning.

I use to do this often, i honestly dont know if it makes a difference or not but it seemed like a good idea. Nowadays i my scedule is to hectic to miss out on sleep, but what i do is, before going to bed/within a hour or so, i try to eat some type of protien/meal that will take a while to digest as apposed to a protien drink which digest much quicker. It also helps with stopping the fkin stomach growling i get before bed.

He's made a good point. What's more important for recovery? Making sure you get good quality sleep or protein in the middle of the night. I would pick sleep.
I have a shake every night waiting in the frig. Just drink while i am using the rest room at night.
At least I'm not the only one who can't hold it. I have been having to get up like 2 - 3 times in the middle of the night ,and I promise it's annoying as hell.

Some people wake up in the middle of the night frequently regardless, that being their case....they might as well down a quick protein shake then if it meets their goals.
Actually setting your alarm clock in order to get up and drink some protein might be a different story.
Your metabolism slows down during sleep, so I see no need to wake up in the middle of the night for protein. I like to have a good amount of protein about 30 minutes - 1 hour before bed of 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese and 1 scoop whey isolate (200 calories, 40g protein). That's plenty to last you through the night.
Otherwise, as has been already said, deep sleep is far more important than a protein shake. You could eat all you want, but without proper sleep you'll never reach your full potential.
I see very little benefit of drinking a whey protein shake in the middle of the night.
Sleep is more important than an additional dose of protein. Besides, whey protein digests fast. If you are already up fine, but at least have some fats with it to slow down digestion or at least make it casein.
it dont diterb me. I have one before bed and i piss 1 or 2 times a night so i have ine in fridge already and take a few chugs on the way back to bead.

this is an interesting idea, personally never heard of it before, but i guess if looking to recover quicker it could be a good idea, however i find that if i wake up during the night im always really tired the next day
