    canned veggies

....So am i wrong in making this marketing statement..." Anything that comes in a can shouldn't be classified as a vegetable. You might get some fiber and some trace minerals but seriously, who are you kidding? Look around you and wonder why people have so many issues, while eating so much crap that is devoid of nutritional content while sugar coating and basically trying to fool themselves into feeling better about your dinner"

What do you think about canned veggies?

there are some decent canned veggies out there but I don't use them much if anything it has to be low sodium. I mostly buy frozen for cooking stews & soups and fresh for salads and fancy meals, etc.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

I can't remember the last time I bought canned veggies. They are all mushy and nasty and they don't retain their color or freshness. I agree, there is no point in eating canned veggies.

I agree with the general thought that canned is bad. Tomatoes are all I use from the can, and those are only used in pasta sauce or chili. My thought is, they put so much shit into the preservation of the veggies in the can, that any amount that may be good for you is irrelevant because of all the bad. I remember reading a while back, that just the stuff they put on the lining of the can is as bad as it can get, apparently causing cancer. Then again, what doesn't cause cancer nowadays?

I grow my own Veggies this year and canned my own stuff in glass jars. it was a lesson to the kids on how to prepare you own stuff and save for a just in case. It was old school but I remember my grandma doing this and we ate Veggies all winter.

Frozen is probably the best choice unless you can get it fresh from a farmers market. Store vegetables probably have been on the shelves for weeks before purchased. Frozen are flash frozen at the peak of freshness/ripeness for maximum taste and nutritional content. Farmers markets were usually picked the day before if not the same day you buy it. In the end choosing any of these methods is better than not choosing veggies at all.

I used to stock up on frozen but had to get rid of my second freezer when I moved. Now I am stuck buying a little, not much, but a little more canned veggies. I found some NO salt veggies when I was at the grocery store and they were actually tasty.

Now for fruit, be very very careful even when selecting frozen. They usually have added sugar in them unless it specifies on the back it is only that fruit or berry.

Almost anything not high in acid can be canned very easy at home too, but is more of a pain. I have done this but would rather just open a pack of frozen. High acid items like tomato sauce needs to be canned using a pressure cooker to kill the potential harm of botulism.

I guess I should add the living in Central valley of CA allows me to eat some of the best fruits and veggies. We have many local places to buy from. I am spoiled when it comes to this aspect.

Meh, it really depends on how much volume your grocery store sells. If it's a big store doing a ton of volume, there's no way those veggies last a week on the shelf. This is my experience after working in a relatively big produce store.

I will say that people should learn how to pick good fruits and vegetables. Also, the idea of frozen veggies isn't bad.

I guess I should rephrase. They may not have sat on the shelves for two weeks but they were not just picked. If we transport fresh california avocados to ATL you would be looking at a minimum of a week before they even see the store.

I will agree that frozen veggies are the best source for the average person. Buy the higher quality brands too, there is a difference.

I try my best to do the same. Some say they are too expensive but if you stop buying them they will only go up in price. Demand will increase supply and lower prices.

Organic is the best way to buy items with flesh that you eat, like carrots. Pesticides get absorbed into the skin and it "should" be removed on non-organic pesticide treated carrots, potatoes, etc...

Im lucky enough that I live close to a market so I go there twice a week in order to buy fresh vegies and fresh fish. As far as canned vegies go, chickpeas are the only thing i tend to get out of a can. I do a pretty badass chickpea salad!!!
I love lifting so much that i wanna take it behind the school building and get it pregnant!

I would buy organic stuff if I could buy it directly from the farmer who grew it. If not, the word "organic" or anything else associated has little meaning to me. I think a lot of it is a scam.

you should stay away fron canned foods asmuch as possible.

alot of toxinc/chems seep into the food from the chemical lining in the can.

alot simulat estrogen in the human body.
    amongst other things.

NVM the "is canned veggies as good as fresh"
the bigger issue is the fact your eating canned food.

stay away from it asmuch as you can.

The word organic is not the same it was years ago. Now organic foods are treated the same as non organic by the large manufacturers that are attempting to capitalize in the market.

most of my veggies are fresh, however I do have some frozen veggies in my freezer.Like anything else just try to make a habit out of eating fresh veggies as well as fruit when possible. There have been some studies where frozen veggies and fruits do not lose as many nutrients as you would think!

Those studies are correct. Flash freezing is a wonderful thing.
