Losing fat / gaining muscle (help)

Ok, I'm 6'1" 227 lbs. at least 35 pounds of my weight is fat.
I want to drop weight to around 190-200 and be ripped when I get there.
Problem is I'm finding out losing fat and gaining muscle t the same time may not be possible... at least that's what I was told.

So, I need to know... is weight training a waist of time until I drop the fat ?
My main concern is that I have read that the first 6 months of weight training is when you gain the most muscle. I don't want to waist that window of opportunity by having a calorie deficit during that time trying to lose the fat.

    What should I do ?

    thanks

Building enough muscle to show off needs a calorie excess. Cutting weight needs a calorie deficit. You're around 15% bodyfat if I calculated correctly, I say cut to ~8-10% bodyfat, then bulk and cut as necessary from there.

Oh is that all? cut 8-10% bf. so just drop down to like 5-7% bf and then bulk? yeah thats it man. thats all you have to do...

anyways aside from the aforementioned advice that didn't really answer your question... you're kind of bringing up a topic that has been done to death. There was an article i was trying to find that was posted by Ironmagazine (not just on the forum but on the website) i believe like a month or so ago that explained at least in part- yes its possible to do both... but not at the same specific time/moment. But on some days your body would repair and build new muscle and on some days it would consume fat. So maybe in a weeks period say yes its possible but not like in a day.

Absolutley not, i would not drop weight lifting to lose weight and/or fat.
Some guys around here say they lift the same when they're cutting as they do when they're bulking or maintenance which I call BS on b/c I can't see myself doing deadlifts w/ close to max weight on a restricted calorie diet and recouping in a couple of days.

If you take anything away from this... decide if its weight or BF you want to cut... find out what it takes to lose weight (your calorie maintenance) and adjust your diet accordingly. This is more of a diet question than training but you can still lift- i wouldn't max out everytime you go to the gym... to answer your question.

yes the first 6-8 months you will gain muscle rapidly but the same goes for fat as well its your body trying to adjust to the change of routine. I would normally suggest doing one for 6mths and then the other for tje next six. But from the short description awhites provided above it sounds feasible. if anyone reading this can find this article send me a link id love to read it

here it is, guess i could have looked a little harder. It's pretty long but it will give you an idea of what that question means and how thats possible

Is Concurrent Muscle Gain and Fat Loss Possible?

If i were you decide what you want to do more, be bigger and stronger? or get cut? Pick one and go with it. Things to consider, Its winter... no need to bust out the bathing suit. Now is the off season and most pros are probably bulking.

but then again if your new... it may take you several months to get "shredded" as you put it and you can start now and be good by summer.

The specific programming will be manipulated as the goals change but for most cases, it's still prudent to squat, bench and deadlift whether one is cutting or bulking.

I couldn't agree with you more Awhites1... Proper dieting is really the key factor to builing muscle and dropping BF. Weight training is important, but the trick is diet. If you really want to tear it up bro, concentrate on your diet.
