Beans are technically a legume...don't ask me what the heck that means.
They may lump beans in with animal meats because they have high amounts of protein in them? Just a guess...

Why is it that beans (black, red, etc) get included with meats and poultry? I've used two different diet tracking software programs, and they both have beans in with meats and poultry. Seems to me that beans are a veggie. I thought meats and poultry were animal meat.

Today I can do what others will not so that tomorrow I will do what others cannot.
The difference between winners and losers is that winners do things that losers don't want to do.
Beans are a protein source - in addition they have a high carbohydrate contain. This is what makes Legumes different animal meat. Most animal meat has very low carbohydrate grams.
I think beans fall under the "incomplete protein" category, cause they don't have sufficient amounts of the 8 EAA's.
Mix them with rice and you have a complete protein though.
Besides, vegetables proteins have poor absorption rate in the intestinal tract compared to animal proteins.

thats pretty interesting, because as far as i know beans and rice is a traditional spanish meal. Its also one that is 'good for you.' I doubt that the mayans or whoever came up with that had access to all that science yet they kept up a diet which was 'good for them.'Originally posted by Prince

It was kind of a joke, hence the reference to Taco Bell, which I do believe any "real" Mexican would be offended with the notion that Taco Bell is Mexican food.
Sheesh! What's with the "technical-speaking" people around here Prince?

EAA = Essential Amino Acid = BCAA = Branched Chained Amino Acids ?
EAA does = essential amino acid, yes.
But BCAAs are not all of the essential amino acids. The BCAAs are just three aminos - Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine. So that's missing the other five - tryptophan, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine and theonine.

With one (maybe two) being classed 'conditionally essential' - that is it's essential under certain conditions, like extreme stress.
That amino acid is the grandly gestured Glutamine.

I'll just shutup now. I have been out of advanced science / ap biology for far too long now. gd wtf is wrong with me?
You're just a horrible, horrible freak.
Don't worry, it's what's on the inside that counts.

"legume , common name for any plant of the family Leguminosae, which is called also the pulse, legume, pea, or bean family. The word is often used loosely in the plural for vegetables in general. Botanically, a legume is the characteristic fruit of the pulse family plants, called also leguminous plants. It is a pod which usually splits along two sides, with the seeds attached along one of the sutures. The family Leguminosae is classified in the division Magnoliophyta, class Magnoliopsida, order Rosales."
