    My client...

Well, I HAD this client who was an utter idiot, so I thought I would share since she switched trainers.

So, this woman comes to me to lose some weight and i told her I could help her do this. I asked her which it would be easier to give up, carbs or fat. She said carbs and I recommended a CKD. Set up the diet with her and told her what to avoid. So, a week or two went by and she asked why she had not lost weight. I said, "Are you eating carbs?" She said no, so i asked her what she ate that day. The first two things she said she ate were an apple and a banana. I told her that these were carbs and went back over the whole carbs are basically all plant derived foods and sweets. She said that she now understands what a carb is. So, two weeks later, she asks me why she still wasn't losing weight because she was not eating carbs. I asked her what she ate. It all sounded good but then she interjected something. "Oh, wait, I had some pumpkin pie, but I only had the inside part, I didn't eat any of the crust." My head sunk into my hands. "A*****, what is a pumpkin." This stumped her. "It is a plant. And Andrea, what type of taste does a pumpkin pie have? Is it sour? Salty? Oh wait, it's sweet isn't it? And what do sweet things generally contain?" So, anyway, She switched trainers today, because her lack of progress could not possibly be due to her inability to follow a diet, it must have been my workouts. Stupid Bitch.

Regardless of carbs or not, she would have lost weight providing she was in calorie deficit. She was probably not giving you the entire picture of what she was eating. Unless they write down every morsel of food that enters their mouths, most people either seriously under-estimate their intake or seriously over-estimate it.

It reminds me of the dumbfucks who say "well i've been really good today so i'll treat myself to a pint or two at the pub." They subsequently undo the entire day's dieting. It's such a waste of time.

I'm amazed she was willing to give up carbs and go for higher fat so readily too. Usually "folks" are cluefucks who think fat is bad and carbs are health foods.

Most people like the one you just described don't realise that food intake is the major player in this situation. They seem to think cardio is what does the trick. I'd just let them think that cardio is magic and make sure they do enough to make the calorie deficit. I'd still push the diet of course, but if they're burning 200-500kcals every other day or so, even with the odd stray from diet they'd still expect to drop some weight to keep them happy, motivated and enthusiastic.

Reminds me of a situation a co-worker of mine told me about, he is also a bb'er.

His friend came to him and asked how he could drop some weight. So my friend told him the basics, drop cals, carbs etc etc. A few weeks later he calls my co-worker up and says he hasn't lost any weight. My co-worker asks him what he ate and he tells him well i ate blah blah blah. Basically it sounded decent. My co-worker was perplexed and asked him if he missed anything, his response? "Oh, well i get hammered atleast 3 days a week, you think thats a problem?"

    Fuq...exactly!

If it had been me though, I wouldn't have even suggested CKD in the first place

True, but she did not necessarily have to be in a caloric deficit to drop weight on a CKD. She was eating at or around maintenance and, as a result of her carb binges, she did not lose the weight because she strayed from the macronutrient profile of the diet. Add horrendously large carb ups to the equation and it is a wonder that she did not gain weight.

Yeah, I've been on a no-carb diet too. I only eat brown rice, bananas, oatmeal, and wheat pasta every day.

    Perfecto,

as far as i know, aspartame shouldn't kick you out of ketosis. It might prevent you from getting into deep ketosis, but once you're there it shouldn't affect you.

Ketosis is an unecessary part of a CKD. They should actually be called carb cycling diets, IMO.

yup, i totally agree. Ketosis doesn't give you anything a plain ole calorie deficit won't, except maybe less cravings/hunger pangs, but that depends on carb amount, type and timing.
