What happens if you have a cold or allergies for the nasal feeder? (i.e. congestion)
I think we're geared too much towards meals as a social time, a relaxation, a chance to appreciate one of our 5 senses. I've done several months of very restricted diets for competition over the years and some days I can just shovel it down, other days I really want to enjoy the taste. When I could stand chicken, I really appreciated a well-grilled chicken breast. I've actually gotten to the point where I'm able to eat chicken in a restaurant but the stuff that I cook at home (even grilled) makes me gag. I rely much more on lean ground turkey but even then I'll put some mustard or salsa or pepperoncinis on it to give it some variety. I tend to use vinegary stuff as my flavoring when I'm dieting. My other "flavor" is diet Coke or diet Pepsi, and lately I"ve been on a big lemonade Crystal Lite kick. You see the trend towards tart flavors.
I also rely heavily on hoodia when I'm dieting - I find it basically kills my taste buds so I don't have a 'taste' for things - this is often what triggers the desire to eat to get a certain flavor or something that sounds good and gets you salivating. But I will tell you that after a while I really miss enjoying the taste of foods and I really do appreciate the taste of things so much more when I drop the hoodia and get my taste buds back.
I think it would suck and be very hard to live w/o the sense of taste and just get some mush of nutrients thru a tube.
