    Another protein question

OK, this comes from Kuso's thread regarding the amount of protein this guy supposedly takes. If what LAM said is true, it got me thinking...

For my first meal of the day I take 44g protein w/1 tbsp flax and 3/4 cup oatmeal w/SF syrup and cinnimin. Would I be better off splitting my protein into 2 seperate servings w/flax? Say 22g with breakfast and 22g when I first get to work?

    So...30g at a time eh?

I know, I did it again, please move this to supplements. Thank you.

44g of protein in one mean don’t seem bad to me. But a meal with only 22g of protein do seem a bit low. That’s only the opinion from a newbie so ya know.

To make things simple, make sure you eat protein at least every 2.5-3 hours. Figure out your daily overall protein intake (1-2 g per lb of bodyweight), and split the protein evenly among those meals.

I'm in the right place ...

I've been downing raws eggs for years. four at morning, four at night. I've made great gains as a drug free bodybuilder, and as of late I've made some massive growth spurts. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.
But last night some wise ass told me that the protien in raw eggs is useless unless you cook it first. I've also recently heard that any protien taken with sugar won't be absorbed at all!
After six years of heavy training should I be looking more like Arnold and less like Zane??

4 raw eggs via shot glass with a bit of O.J.
25 grams of protien in under ten seconds.

    Why not ...

Less than 1.5g per pound and I start feeling guilty, and I wasn't making gains at 1.2g per pound long ago, so I stepped it up. I'm pretty happy with 1.5-1.6g per pound right now, but I have been up to 490 a day, most I've weighed was 238/9, which makes it a tad more than 2g/lb.

Mudge, I gotta agree. I've heard of many people, myself included, who have realized new growth by bumping up the daily protein intake by 20 or 50 grams until they hit that magic number that works for them.
I also feel guilty if I fall under 1.5 a day, I shoot for 300 grams min. daily.
But last night I was on a chat sight talking with someone who claims we take way too much protein, and like a hundred grams of it is just wasted in the body. He was a dedicated powerlifter who had added about 60 pounds of muscle during his time on less than half the protein we consume.
Me, I've come too far to change what seems to be working.

2 g of protein per lb of bodyweight for me...I weigh 265 so figure it out! Anyway redwolf...raw eggs are absorbed just fine. The only worry is salmenella poisoning. Oh, and protein and sugar...again, absorbed just fine.

I used to look at the massive amounts of protein, and it seems crazy for awhile. Once you get into it and get used to the diet somewhat, it becomes natural, and then you get to explain to people later who are freaked out at what you eat.

When I was on 1.2g it was GP and DP who got me to try more, I was basically stuck at that point. The best way to avoid 'wated' protein is to make sure you have some kind of fat/carbs in the meal as well, so the protein isn't converted to carbs in the body.

Good point. Yes, all of my protein meals are accompanied by either a small amount of carbs or some fat (usually EFAs).
