    Question Meals and beverages

Do you drink a beverage when you eat?

or do you wait until you're finished?

The reason I am curious is because it's very typical (for Americans anyway) to drink a beverage while they eat.

However, I have read that this has negative effects on digestion and that it's better to wait at least 30 minutes after you eat to drink.

I always drink while I eat. It is a bad habit that is really hard to change. It makes me eat really fast because instead of chewing my food up all the way I just force it down with a big gulp of water.
I have never heard of waiting 30min. after your meal to drink, I'd imagine that would be pretty uncomfortable. Does anyone do that?

I had to watch my dogs DEVOUR their meals and then they go for a drink of water, but they don't wait 30 minutes.

Should I wait 30 minutes before giving them water???
    He,he.. I know!!!

Care to explain the waiting period of 30 minutes...

When you drink water during a meal or soon after supposedly it interupts the digestion of food by deluting the acids in your stomach.

I am not saying it's true, I was just curious to what everyone does.

water is necessary for digestion, but not sure if the body needs extra water other than what is in the food.

I might need my water to wash down the horse meat.
I don't think I can wait 30 min. to drink after a meal like that.

    Prince is right.
I recently read an article in MMI about the same topic.
Apparently, if you drink anything with your meal it cuts the biological value of the protien damn near in half.
Seems strange, but if it's true your daily protien intake might not be as high as you think.
I started eating my meals at work without a beverage. It was a pain for a while, but on the upside it eliminated any bloating I used to get during the day.
    Anyone see the same article?

I have a drink with just about every bite, I always have. For along time it was milk, nowdays its mostly water or coffee (I know, evil), but yes I always drink while I eat.

IF this is true, then us who supplement with protein shakes are, well kinda screwed.

Don't get me wrong, I take in more water than the average, non--lifting, non- psychotic training person.
Without the hydration I think you would halt any gains as well.
I don't wait 30 mins. after meals though.
    10 maybe.

And I believe this only becomes an important factor with the digestion of solid foods.

Sorry, you are right...that wasn't very clear. The myth is that drinking fluid during meals impedes digestion!
