Lightbulb 18 year old needs diet help

Hey, I've been trying forever but I just can't seem to get ripped. Whats the deal? I'm 5'7 and weigh in at 135. I cut down to 2,000 calories and run 3 miles a day. I cut out weight lifting during this time. I've been at i6t about 2 weeks and I don't think much is happening. Am I possibly cutting too many calories? Whats your advice?

well, for starters running 3 miles per day and not lifting weights is part of it.

post your daily diet.

Daily diet? Ummm... well, it varies. I don't do any carb cutting or anything. I do avoid stuff with high glycemic index's. I make sure I get all my good fats in and I make sure I get a lot of protien in. I eat 5 times a day.

no, just post what you typically eat for your 5 meals in a day.

you do realize that your diet is the most important part of getting lean/ripped, don't you?

Oh, and I know it's a lot. But do you know how I could possibly get cut slowly but somehow keep putting on muscle? I would try a ECA or something but I have ADD and I don't think it'd work. Should I give it a shot?

first and foremost you should be concerned with what you're eating.

you seem to be avoiding posting your daily diet which leads me to believe that you really do not have one.

Yeah, I realize. Okay, here's what I had today.

Meal 1: 4 eggs, wheat bread, glass of milk, vitamins, water. Somwhere around 400 calories.

Meal 2: Protein shake, cup of milk, peanut butter and water. Somewhere around 400 calories. A little more or a little less. Actually they all are at 400 calories so I'll stop typing the calorie value.

Meal 3: Tunafish on wheat with some cottage cheese and water.

Meal 4: Protein shake with a cup of milk, peanut butter nd water.

Meal 5: 2 chicken breast with some pasta... and water.

They're actually low GI...but they still suck, milk because it's all sugar and pasta because it's a wheat product.

SS...I would say you need to stop running and start w8lifting. You will not get ripped on that training schedule, you will only drop MUSCLE and fat.

Your carb sources suck...drop the bread, pasta, milk and replace it w/ slow cooking oats, brown rice, sweet potato, apple, grapefruit, or berries.

Meal 1 doesn't have enough protein in it and meal 5 has too much....try to balance these two meals out more.

You didn't post anything resembling green vegetables ....you eat them right?

I think at 5'7" and 135..there is a gender question here. If you're male......then cutting calories like you state above is the absolute WRONG idea.

I'd like to know (to lazy to go back thru old posts for a clue)....what gender....and what was the previous nutritional plan looking like?

Actually, in 9th grade I was about that size, that's the main reason that I started lifting weights!

Some males naturally have a small bone structure/build.

Damn Prince....you were 18 in 9th grade....and we thought you were just "slow" to get our jokes

OK....at "cut down to 2000 cals" .....let's assume SS is male. There is NO ROOM for a 135 pound person of any size frame, to cut at 5'7", period, end of story!

As you/we are saying.....less cardio....more resistance training and a hardening or "slow bulking" program is more advisible for 18 at this size and BW.

Yeah, I'm male. And yeah, I get my vegetables. They'd usually be in a sandwich or a pasta dish. Wow. I thought pasta was low glycemic. So you guys just suggest lifting and cutting calories?

I think you are doing too much cardio/running and you need to lift weights.

How many calories is your current diet? estimate

do what w8lifter said in regards to diet:

Quote:
Your carb sources suck...drop the bread, pasta, milk and replace it w/ slow cooking oats, brown rice, sweet potato, apple, grapefruit, or berries.

Meal 1 doesn't have enough protein in it and meal 5 has too much....try to balance these two meals out more.

About 2000 a day. Could be 100 calories above or below depending on the day.

I know you guys got better things to do, but could anyone possibly get me a eating outline and calorie intake that would allow me to lose fat and possibly gain muscle at the same time?

Okay, so I should just stop running, keep my calorie intake at the same level, start lifting, and just get better carbs?

Start lifting, reduce the cardio/running, adjust diet per w8lifter's suggestions, as far as calories do you feel that you're losing weight, gaining or staying the same? You may just want to keep calories the same and see what happens after you start lifting and stop running, then adjust from there.

For starters, yes.

Counting cals more accurately would definitely help. That way you can assess your progress, or lack of, and adjust weekly. You seem like you're just starting out, so eating clean and lifting will give you tremendous results for months, hell i only lifted, no diet/supps, for bout a year and i still had great results.

Okay, I don't know how you guys do the quote thing but here it goes. Prince, thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot and see how I do. I just thought that me not lifting would help me avoid getting into catabolics. As in I wouldn't put my body in a state of break down that it couldn't get out of. That was my thought process. I lost about 7 pounds in 2 weeks. A little muslce probably too. And Yanick, I didn't want to seem misleading. I count my calories pretty spot on and am disciplined. I just didn't think 100 misplaced any direction made much of a difference. Thanks you guys, really. Prince, Fluid, Dr. Pain, and W8lifter (for giving me a excuse to eat apples). Thanks you guys. Keep the suggestions coming if you have any.
