This is always a hot topic of discussion during prep because competition diets offer so little in terms of 'taste' satisfaction. Diet soda is another big item that I literally crave when I'm in comp prep because I feel like I'm gonna lose my mind if I don't get something w/ some sort of fun flavor in my mouth. Ideally you'd be drinking all water the whole time, but I think mixing in some diet soda and / or Crystal Lite is ok further out - as long as at least a large % of what you drink is water.

However if you go digging into how the body responds to Splenda & other artificial sweeteners, there's a lot out there that would tell you not to include it. My recommendation is to include it or soda up to say 4 weeks out, and then start cleaning it out of your diet and get yourself to plain water. During my first prep to ensure that I wasn't starting to allow diet soda to replace my scheduled water intake, the equation was to drink 2x the water to 'filter out' a diet soda. But generally by the time you get down to your last 4 weeks - for water-related stuff, it takes on the order of 7-10 days to let your body adjust and clear it out - so being generous w/ the buffer of time to get your body to down to the bare minimum of influences so you can manage your water manipulation.

An option on the coffee is to make iced coffee - which is basically coffee, w/ ice, get a no cal creamer and some stevia. Damn good!

I think ultimately the goal is to get your food intake down to the bare basics by the time you hit 4 weeks out so you know exactly what your body is responding to. Everyone has their own opinions about whether or not diet soda, etc. impacts progress, but I think you just can't go wrong w/ the approach of Simple Is Best.

I have got my diet down to the absolute basics i can eat tue same thing everyday no prob, chicken, talapia, steak, eggs, oatmeal, br rice, potato, yam and broccoli. I figure if i keep it the same then all i have to do is adjust ratios up or down. What do you think? Is this a good approach?

That's pretty much it. Towards show time I may switch up my sources of protein tho - drop all the protein mix, lean more towards fish and steak, and possibly change your total cals if you need to, but usually macro adjustments does it.
