How much does everyone spend on food on a monthly basis. What I'm finding is that I want to increase my protein, well, and total calories for that matter, but, it's expensive to eat steak and chicken every day. Especially in the quantites that I need to in order to gain muscle mass.
If anyone has advice on ways to increase protein intake without killing the budget, i would appreciate it.
With the economy the way it is, I need to save every dime possible.

If you have a membership to Sam's or Costco you can get 10lbs of boneless skinless, frozen chicken for $20.00 also they sell 10 can packs of tuna for $4.50. I buy the albacore which is 8 cans for 7.50 but I don't like the chunk tuna. I buy alot of food from there, its a cost savings and saves trips to the grocery store.![]()

To save money rty eating more "light" tuna, protein powder, and eggs/egg whites. For variety eat steak and chicken but keep in mind they cost more. As Jodi said...buy your chicken and steak from Costco in bulk to save money.

Ditto what Mochy said, Costco is the way to go, it's a bodybuilders best friend when it comes to food and saving money.
I buy all my steaks and chicken in bulk. They were selling a whole box of sweet potatos last month for about $5 and there were at least 10+ potatos. You can buy a crate of 5 dozen eggs (that's 60 eggs) for like $4. Then there's the LF cottage cheese, $5 for a...I think it's a 1lb tub. Oh yeah, they also carry Heavy Whipping Cream...There's the sirloin beef patties and Turkey Burgers (all white meat, 24grams of protein!!!).......

Another nod for Costco.
I buy alot of meat there, but I can actually get it a few cents cheaper per pound somewhere else. (Same grade etc). However, I like the way they cut the meat at costco.
I use a food slicer, so I may buy a eye of round roast (3 pack) then I slice the meat into the size (in ounces) portions I want. For example, I cut some of that beef to 1/8" and then pan fry it up in the morning for a steak egg white omlett. Lot of protien with very little fat (eye of round is a pretty lean meat - I use Pam or similar to fry it up). What ever, it works for me.
The Kirkland brand (Costco store brand) Tuna is actually packaged and whatnot by Bumblebee. So if you decide to start buying stuff there, I haven't had any problems or issues with the costco branded items.

with our large family our bill runs between 130 to 165 a week for food and other needs. but for me alone i'd say 30 to 40 a week. but you cant really put a price on eating healthy and staying fit.

I would say I get by with $200-$240 or so a month. My chicken breasts are $2.18 a pound I think in a bag (frozen), I eat tuna in the can (mostly at work), sometimes buy chicken strips, and of course protein powder and occasionall this or that, brown rice, sometimes beans, peanut butter, etc

Can I ask a dumb question.. what in the heck is cost co and Sams club? If it's a cash 'n' carry, over in dear old England you have to be a business to go to a cash 'n' carry, we have our own range of 'walmart' stores called 'ASDA' whom I work for but it still adds up to alot of money for me. I earn around £5.30 a month, and well bills and hp's and %hit I am left with v little money.

you have to pay a yearly membership fee, however..usually around $45-$50. I dont have one, but I think I'm gonna get one cuz I"m a college student, and it would be cheaper and more convenient for me to do that.
We have Kash n' Karry (notice the K) over here, but it's just a regular supermarket, like a Publix, Albertson's, or Winn Dixie. HOpe that helped![]()

It's not too bad I tried a proper diet when I was working at my old job, and I basrely broke even. I am praying that I will have more than enough money now that I am working for Walmart, with the discount I should break even (just), but it's a fine line, I should be okay once I change gym

Tuna rules 1 can is 32 grams of protein. 1 egg is 7grams protein.
You can buy decent whey powder at costco. 1 serving is 19g.
I spend $100 a week, excluding protein powder and other supplementation. I also go through 2 pounds of chicken breast and a pound of steak a day. You just gotta look for deals, I guess.
