Question Newbie - How to start?

    Hello Everyone,

I have learned so much after visiting this board last week. My workouts are now shorter, harder and more effective. Now I need a little help with diet.

    My stats:
    Sex - Male
    Height - 6' 6"
    Age - 30
    Weight - 275
    Body Fat - Unknown

    Diet history:
Grew up on carbs all my life (love sugar/desert)
7 months ago - Started Kashi Go Lean Diet (life style change big time)

Monday through Friday I would eat the following on an average day:

    1) Protien Shake (1c milk - three scoops powder) + mult-vitamins

    2) Whole Grain Cereal (9g fat - 108g carbs - 39g suger - 27g protien) + 1 - 2 TBS. Sugar + 2c. milk

    3) Protein/Fiber Bar (6g fat - 49g carbs - 35g sugar - 13g protein)

    4) Various Dinners - a) fish - potatoe/squash - vegatable - Salad (ceaser or blue cheese or vinagrette) - b) pad thia noodles - c) shrimp pasta - d) vegi burger - potatoe tots

    5) Desert - Often some type of ice cream and cookie variation

Weekends would be free days where I would eat what ever I wanted which usually when to a high carb diet I grew up on.

OK - I I have read several of the articles about sugar and it makes a lot of sense to me (I could actually feel the sugar in my body after reading it - yuck). The current siet works, but I know its not very effective after everything I've read here.

I need a little help planning a cutting diet and also integrating it into my daily life. I read the Male cutting diet and could try to start, but I don't eat very much chicken of beef. Could someone please help?!? Also, will I be able to have one free day a week so I don't go crazy?

    Thanks!

well im a newbie to this site too man but really i suggest if you wanna loose fat but minimal muscle then eat around 300- 350g protein a day an about 300g carbs a 70 or so gram of fat ,if not losing weight simply reduce carbs till you are,it aint rocket science, eat less food than you need for maintenance you will lose weight,or if keeping muscle isnt an issue simply lower intake till your losing weight, also the sugar intake may be a prblem as obviously its all well sugar an that in its self can promote fat storage, but like i say all you really can do is keep dropping food intake till you lose weight, also what kind of weight loss have you achieved so far?lbs a week month etc

    Thanks for the reply.

I haven't lost weight as in pounds. I've been burning fat and replacing it with muscle so my weight of 275 has stayed the same. My muscles are harder and by belly is slowly going away. I'm more concerned with burning the fat off than loosing weight.

well what i suggest you do is go on cutting phase first as in eat the 300-350g protein a day an then just make sure your carbs are low enough to lose weight, weigh your self every week to make sure your losing an if not reduce calories by maybe 500 an check the next week,as you lose weight-which if you do it properly it wil be like shitting lard then youll notice a massive improvement in your body as trying to bulk an shred at the same time spells disaster, then when youve lost the fat if you wanna add more uscle go on an old school diet an training programme

I'm glad you've learned a lot I have to first off start by saying I disagree w/ bigredostrich in his suggestions on diet- too much carbs, not enough fat

    My stats:
    Sex - Male
    Height - 6' 6"
    Age - 30
    Weight - 275
    Body Fat - Unknown

    Diet history:

Monday through Friday I would eat the following on an average day:

    1) Protien Shake (1c milk - three scoops powder) + mult-vitamins

So...you do know you're eating far too much sugar...although I don't recommend sugar...this seems to be your best meal!

    2) Whole Grain Cereal (9g fat - 108g carbs - 39g suger - 27g protien) + 1 - 2 TBS. Sugar + 2c. milk

Dude...that is a shitload of carbs for one meal...what kind of cereal is this that has 27 g protein? And how much are you eating?

    3) Protein/Fiber Bar (6g fat - 49g carbs - 35g sugar - 13g protein)

Again, far too much sugar, not enough protein...I suggest a better bar

    4) Various Dinners - a) fish - potatoe/squash - vegatable - Salad (ceaser or blue cheese or vinagrette) - b) pad thia noodles - c) shrimp pasta - d) vegi burger - potatoe tots

Fish is good, veggies, salad, shrimp is good....lose the noodles, pasta and potatoes

    5) Desert - Often some type of ice cream and cookie variation

There is no place for dessert on a cut!

Yes...you could have a free day once a week if you need it, and if you stick to a good diet for the entire week. What about tuna and eggs, they are both a good source of protein. I would suggest you increase your protein, change your carb sources to a healthier choice...sweet potato, brown rice, oats, apple, grapefruit, peaches. You need to add some healthy fats....olive oil, flax seed oil, salmon and other fish.

Make sure you're getting balanced meals...w/ protein, fat and slow burning carbs in each meal. Do a search for the shopping list posted by me or Dr. Pain...it has a list of good foods that you should concentrate on eating

    What's your water level at?

    Thanks! [/QUOTE]

Yes...it's me, lol....well, I said I didn't recommend the milk. The bar sucks too but um, not to be rude, but...anything would be an improvement on all that sugar, lol.

    Thanks everyone!

When i wrote this original post I saw all the carbs and sugars and was shocked myself, but I have to validate myself because my diet before (and all my life) was pure crap. This diet was a great first step and helped me loose weight (some may have been muscle).

It gave me a diet structure and now I'll take it even further, especially now that I understand how sugar works. I'd hate to keep spending 5-7 hours a week working out and not buring fat, but mostly muscle.

I went out a got food supplies for the male cutting plan and will be starting Sunday (Saturday will be my free day, but not a crazy day).

Thanks eveyone! I'll keep posting with updates and more questions.
